We’re having a bit of a baking day today. So far we’ve made:
Cinnamon buns – When I attempted to make these originally I learned a valuable lesson – Always read the instructions on the yeast packet before using said yeast. The recipe I used is here and I’m pleased to confirm that if you do in fact follow the instructions on the yeast packet, the buns will turn out yummy. You would be so jealous right now if we had smelly-net as the batch in the oven smell sooooo good.
Vanilla Traybake – Miss Independent Frugal is very proud of herself because she’s made her own cake with no help from anyone. I love the cake mixes you can buy that only need a bit of water or an egg adding to them, they’re so easy for kids to make and it makes her feel all grown up because she has done somthing on her own. Admittedly it doesn’t look quite as nice as it possible could have done if she hadn’t decided to add blue food colouring to the icing but I’m sure it will taste lovely all the same.
Jammy Buns – We make these loads as they are so simple and taste delicious. We use this recipe but often use different jams or even lemon curd if we have any in.
Chocolate Chip Cookies – Courtesy of Master frugal. Another packet mix, all he had to do was add a bit of water and some butter to the mix and then he got to stick his hands in and get squidging. He wasn’t very consistent with the size of his cookie balls though, which means we have one tiny burnt cookie, a few normal ones and a couple of larger squidgy ones 😉
The kids are all baked out for today and they’re playing happily upstairs after their nutritious lunch of eggy bread and banana splits ;-).
Actually, I take that bit back about them playing happily, it sounds like World War 3 has broken out up there now. I’m going to have to say goodbye to my peaceful half an hour catching up with Google Reader and go sort out whatever it is that they’re fighting about.
See you all later
