A few months ago Miss Frugal and I were planning to make some wall art for her new improved bedroom and we were searching Pinterest for a quote that she wanted to use for it. She kept going back to the same one but I was enjoying myself that much looking at quotes that I made her keep looking in case she found another one she liked just as much.
We found lots that she loved but none that she connected with in the way she had with the quote she had chosen. I asked her why she liked the quote she’d chosen so much and she said it was because it encouraged her to try new things. We stopped looking right there because if she’s found a way to motivate herself then I’m going to go with it.
This is the finished piece of wall art:
Then I started to think about other phrases and quotes that we use to inspire our children. My personal favourite is this one:
From personal experience I know that life really can be too short and you need to make the most of every moment. I must say this at least once a day out loud as well as saying it in my head numerous other times. It really helps with Miss Frugal if she’s having some sort of teen drama – I tell her that life’s too short to worry about whether her hair is curly or straight or the fact that she can’t find her favourite lip gloss. 😉
Miss Frugal also has a locket that we got her just before she started senior school and that has ‘Be brave every day’ engraved on it and when she has a challenge ahead, like a hard test at school then she’ll sneak it on under her school uniform.
Here’s a few of my favourite quotes that can be used to motivate and teach children:
