I’m quite pleased with my frugal efforts this week.
1) I had a bit of a kitchen cupboard re-arrange this week and realised that I really needed to get a bit more organised with my storage as I have things in the cupboards that I use all the time and things on my lovely kitchen shelving unit that were there just because they were pretty. I was very tempted to buy some more of the gorgeous Orla Kiely storage containers that are on the top shelf in the picture below but they’re not cheap and I couldn’t justify the price so I decided to re-use other things I had already for storage.
I re-used a couple of kilner jars that I got for Christmas (Miss Frugal was all about gifts in jars this year) to store my bread flour and cous cous and I’d already used another to store my cupcake case neatly. I used a Kilner bottle that I got on sale for 50p to store my dried chilli as it was in a big bulky bag before (I buy it in the world foods sections at the shop – half the price and triple the size).
My tea coffee and sugar containers are all empty Orla Kiely design coffee jars that I bought half price when everyone else had finished scouring the shops for them and it took FOREVER for Mr Frugal to finish drinking the coffee so I could use them for storage!
The little turquoise cupboard is filled with all of my herbs and spices so I can easily see what I have in – in the past I’ve been out and bought more of something because I thought I’d ran out, only to find it the day after hidden in the cupboard.
2) I made myself a big Slimming World quiche this week using leftovers from the fridge – slow cooked gammon, cheese, mushrooms, tomatoes, a couple of limp looking spring onions and some cheese I bought reduced. I made enough to last me two days worth of lunches and it was DELICIOUS!
3) We got the photos back from Master Frugal’s mascot experience and I almost had a little cry when I saw how much they had done with him in the time he was away from us in the players dressing room. He met all of the players individually and had his photo took with each of them and as we were going through them he got all excited again, telling us what he’d talked about with each player. There’s about 30 photos altogether and they’re much too special to be hidden away on a memory stick so I’ve ordered prints of them all. I managed to get them printed for free as I googled free photo prints and found lots of companies who offer free prints when you register with them. I haven’t got them back yet so I can’t recommend a particular company but there were loads to choose from when I searched.
4) Staying on the subject of photos, I’m planning my photo wall now thanks to finding some gorgeous photo frames in our local pound shop. I was really surprised by the quality of them and I don’t think you can see from the photo below just how pretty they are.
I was quite surprised by some of the things I found in the pound shop but I’ll share that with you over the weekend.
5) I bought a pack of fresh chillis when I went shopping this week and they’re now in a sandwich bag in the freezer ready to grate or chop when I need to use them. They’re much easier to handle frozen and I love having them in when I need them. My last lot were bought reduced for about 20p but I’ve ran out of those now and they’re not expensive to be fair so well worth it even at full price.

I just made salsa out of two tomatoes plus a can of diced, slightly wrinkly bell pepper, jalapeño, fresh cilantro, and garlic salt. BH is out getting dog food so I told him to get tortilla chips too. We will have this with green chile enchiladas (sauce in freezer) and leftover pinto beans for dinner tonight.
I spent 10 days in Albuquerque NM (USA) at our daughter's house, while she was away. I turned down the heater, so it wouldn't come on, and used a small electric heater instead. I was only in two connecting rooms and it was nice in there. No need to heat all the house with only me and the grand dogs I was keeping, so I closed off the rest of the house.
I found a good deal for stevia on line (and free shipping with Amazom prime), so I bought enough for the year, saving $30 dollars.
I bought a clothes drying rack to cut down on dryer usage.
I didn't speed coming home from my daughter's house (250 miles) and got good gas mileage. This last was, by far, the hardest because I normally have a lead foot when I drive.
