As a child, one of my favourite things to do was to count the money in my Dad’s copper jar. I had a little system going on and I vividly remember putting all the copper into equal piles and then adding them up before transferring them into money bags ready to be paid in to the bank (there was no supermarket machines for this back then).
I also remember the smell on my hands afterwards and my Dad telling me to go wash my hands – sometimes I did, sometimes I went upstairs and just ran the tap pretending to wash them (which took just as long as actually washing them if I recall).
I can tell you now though, if I’d read this little lot as a child then I would definitely have been scrubbing washing my hands EVERY time!
Be warned, these facts may make you look at money differently….
Paper money can carry more germs than your average household toilet!
It’s said that cash can carry the flu virus for up to 17 days!
A recent study in the US showed that a large proportion of paper money was contaminated by Cocaine and other illegal substances!
Cash withdrawn from ATMs can be easily contaminated by the rollers and brushes inside so the germs from one note can be spread quickly and easily!
Scientists believe that a banknote can be home to around 26,000 germs!
Only 20% of people wash their hands after handling money!
We know from history that it was believed that dirty money was responsible for spreading plagues and diseases.
So if anyone wants to rid their life of germs and pass their cash over here then I’ll gladly deal with the germs on their behalf. 😉
