I won’t give you the full on foot picture!
What a nightmare few days we’ve had. Poor Miss Frugal’s feet haven’t got any better and I couldn’t get her in to any of the chiropodists round here as they all said while she was on antibiotics they couldn’t do anything!
I kept her off school yesterday and as I was at work, my dad took her back to the doctors for me. As it was an emergency appointment they had to sit and wait for over an hour until she could be seen! When she finally got in it was a different doctor to the one I saw last week, he took one look at her feet and said she had to go straight to the paediatric ward at the hospital.
Mr Frugal was on his way home from work at that point so he took collected her and took her straight there. They had to sit in the corridor for 45 minutes until a bed became available for her and even then there was another long wait before a doctor was able to look at her.
After examining her the doctor said that her verruca’s weren’t infected but she had blood blisters under them and they needed to drain them as soon as possible or the pressure would build up and the pain would be unbearable for her. He explained to her that he was going to numb the area with ‘magic cream’ and use a needle to drain it.
By this time I was at the hospital too and she started to get a bit hysterical, gripping on to me and saying that she was scared and they couldn’t do it. She was so scared she was shaking bless her. In the end they put the cream on and said they wouldn’t do anything else unless she said they could.
Another hour and a half went by and they moved us into the treatment room and brought out their magic weapon – Gas and Air. A couple of deep breaths of this and she was anybody’s! The doctor asked if he could touch her feet and she just giggled so he managed to get the needle in and drained 5ml of fluid from one foot and only slightly less from the other foot. She laughed the whole way through and kept saying it all felt like a dream!
After she was done we had another long wait for the big pile of medicines that they have prescribed for her. So her Doctor’s appointment was at 10.30 and we got home from the hospital about 6.30 – A long, long day and to top it off I had to pay £6.00 to park in the hospital car park!
The staff at the hospital were brilliant although I’m not as pleased with my doctors – yesterday was her third visit to the doctors in a week and I wish this had been picked up sooner. It’s got me thinking about getting some sort of private medical cover, I am covered through my work but the kids and Mr Frugal don’t have any cover although we do have some sort of dental health insurance. Does anyone else have any sort of private medical cover? Is it worth it? I hadn’t really thought about it before but the more I think about it, the more looking out for your family’s wellbeing with private health care seems to matter. I’m going to look into it a bit more to see if it’s an affordable option for us as I really hated having to wait around today when it was clear how much pain she was in.
She’s off school again today as we have to pop back to the doctors to check everything’s OK and if it is she’ll be limping back tomorrow with a few stories to tell her friends ;-)63″ />

I know what you're saying, I think I was overly stressed before because it
was so bad seeing her at the hospital terrified and in pain. I am so
annoyed with my doctors though – I'm in the process of changing to a different
surgery….
TBH even a private doctor could make the same kinda misjudgement…
Yes as others have commented, you have to look into availability in your area. Up where I am all the private patients are seen in the hospital I work in – an NHS one. So you don't get any different treatment than anyone else, except jumping the queue.
I do hope Miss F's feet are feeling better soon, and that she's on the right track with treatment now =)
That's what my medical cover is – I just never thought to extend it to the
kids.

Oh poor mite! thats awful! Our family is covered under my dads private health care till us kiddies are 21 and him and my mum will have it as long as he is there. It is ideal as with ours we simply have to book in to see the specialist we want and then get the authorization from the medical company! Couldnt fault it I have to say! Hope shes feeling better soon! x
I didn't realise that there was no one local that would treat the kids.
It was just so frustrating that the doctors wouldn't listen to me and it
got this far…. Also, my doctors are a nightmare to get appointments for
unless it's an emergency so I think I'll just change doctors, there's a new
surgery opened at the new hospital near me.
We all used to have PMI, but it is really not worth it for the children. There isn't anywhere local that will treat the children privately (not even Newcastle). We still ended up using the NHS with both the boys when they were younger. I think you need to have a chat with your GP's as it seems that they are the weakest link
Oh dear, poor lamb. I hope her feet are not to painful. Yes we have two lots of extra cover. HSA – where we get money towards dentist/optitians/podiatry/hospital stay etc and also Beneden Healthcover – this one is to make sure that if we were ill we could see someone quick as they have hospitals all around the country (haven't had to use it yet but you never know!)
