I love my house, probably more than you should love a house but there you go. I think it’s because I hated my last house, I won’t go into the details but to cut a long story short we had nothing but bad luck the whole time we lived there!
When I finally convinced Master Frugal to move (after only a two years in our last house and in a very poor housing market) we looked at loads of houses but couldn’t find ‘The One’, although we found plenty that came close. I have a thing about straight stairs (don’t ask, I haven’t got a clue ;-)) and Mr Frugal wanted to have a separate room for his computer and all the houses we found that met our basic requirements either had straight stairs or no spare room for his computer so we crossed them off our list.
We looked at this house originally but discounted it because there wasn’t a separate computer room and ended up finding a house that was perfect, just four doors away from this one actually. It was the last four bedroomed house on the development and had everything we wanted within our budget but when we went back to the office to put a deposit down we were gutted to find out that someone else had just reserved it. We were gutted and almost gave up at that point but we decided to look again at this one.
Because he knew how much I wanted to move, Mr Frugal gave up the idea of his computer room as long as we considered adding a conservatory or converting the garage a few years down the line and we decided to go for this one. Once we paid our deposit, my favourite weekend activity was to come and look round it and see what the builders had done that week (I know, I’m sad).
Anyway, fast forward two years and we’re very happy in our house but we haven’t done much in the way of decorating it, which is why one of my New Years resolutions is to decorate throughout. I wanted to leave it until we’d settled in and I’d decided exactly what I wanted (I’ve had a few decorating disasters in the past lol) and now I think I know what I want so I’m ready and raring to go.
I’m going to go for the shabby chic look downstairs and the bathroom upstairs but I’m not sure about our bedroom and en suite, I can’t decide whether to continue with that theme or if I want to have a bit of glam. Miss Frugal’s room is practically done and Master Frugal just needs some good storage in his room and then that’ll be done too. Who said I was over ambitious lol.
I’ve got loads of ideas and I’ll be doing it all myself so you’ll see how it turns out for yourself as well as witnessing the disasters that are very likely to happen along the way 😉 I’ve got some brilliant suggestions from Twitter for sites to help and inspire me and I’m going to have a good look round ready to start something, anything this weekend. If anyone has any other ideas please let me know, I think I’m going to need all the help I can get….
