What do you use your mobile phone for?
Apart from the obvious (phone, text and email) I use the camera on it all the time and I’ve captured a lot of special (and funny) moments that I wouldn’t have done otherwise, I share my pictures using Instagram and I have lots of photo editing apps that I love. I also use Twitter and Facebook and have plenty of games downloaded to keep the kids amused when necessary.

As well as the fun apps though, I use it to help me save money. There’s lots of apps out there that can help you save in all kinds of ways but here’s some of my favourites:
- ACCOUNT TRACKER – This is a personal finance app that allows you to keep track of your spending and monitor your bank account balance. There’s too much functionality to this app for me to list everything but basically, you can use it to keep track of all of your bills and your day to day spending which makes it much easier to manage your budget. It costs £1.99 but judging by the excellent reviews it looks like it’s well worth it although there is a free version with limited features that you can download first if you want to see if you like it first.
- SKYPE – Lots of people have Skype installed on their laptops or PC’s but you can now install the Skype app on your mobile too so you can make free calls and send instant messages to anyone else on Skype. Again the reviews to this one are a bit mixed but it seems that the poor reviews are mostly saying that the app works better on WiFi than it does on 3G. We’ve never had a problem with it but we use it at home so that could be why. Highly recommended considering it’s completely free.
- VOUCHERCLOUD – The Vouchercloud app uses GPS technology to tell you about offers and discounts near where you are. I’ve just checked what’s available in my area and found some good offers for our local restaurant, shops and garages. Another great free app.
- EBAY – I think the eBay app is the most used app on my phone 😉 I always check what’s for sale near where I live as you can get some great bargains when you look at the collection only things and I recently managed to buy two almost new Flickr scooters for £20 each when they are still selling in the shops at £80!
- TRAINLINE.COM – This free app is brilliant as it lets you plan your journeys and book your tickets using your mobile. My favourite feature of the app is the fact that if you set your home station, you can find the next train home from wherever you are.
- QUIDCO – Not only does this app let you know about vouchers and discount codes available near to you, it also allows you to earn cashback by checking in at local shops. The cashback isn’t massive but it all adds up and the app is free so well worth a look.
- KINDLE – If you download the Kindle app you can read books, magazines and newspapers on your phone. I used this before I got my Kindle and although it took me a while to get used to it, I’m really pleased I stuck with it. There are so many free books available for the Kindle that you’re guaranteed to never run out of reading material with this app.
