I’ve been following the Slimming World diet for a few months now and although it’s not going as well as it was at the start (due to an all inclusive holiday and lots of picnics in the Summer Holidays, I am back on track now and am pleased with my weight loss so far.
I tried on the dress I wore for the MADS last year and found it was two sizes too big and the dress I bought for the MADS award ceremony earlier in the Summer now has tobe pulled in a little with a belt so I’m definitely seeing a difference since I started.
One of my favourite syn free Slimming World snacks is chickpea dahl loaf which is absolutely delicious (although it sounds a little weird) and completely syn free.
Chickpea dahl loaf
1 packet of bachelors beef flavour savoury rice
1 tin of chickpea dahl (I buy mine from Asda or Morrisons)
3 eggs.
- Preheat the oven to 200 c.
- Make up the rice following the instructions on the pack.
- When the rice is done, mix in the three eggs and the tin of chick pea dahl.
- Spoon into a baking dish – large and flattish is best.
- Cook for around twenty minutes or until the loaf is firm.
Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it 😉

Does anyone know why mine came out dry and crumbly? I followed recipe exactly. Maybe less heat? Time? One more egg? Thanks

I always made a Curry loaf with Chickpeas Dahl but then it disappeared off the shelves. I even tried the Asian shops but no, not even they had them. Asda told me they don’t do them anymore , I will try Morrison’s, fingers crossed,. I have been using Curried Chickpeas.

I make a Mexican version using Batchelors Mild Mexican Rice (1.5 Syns) and Tesco Taco Mixed Beans in Spicy Tomato Sauce (Syn Free). Just as nice as the Curry version.

A member of my SW group makes this & it's scrummy. I have trouble getting chick pea dahl… Is it a problem for anyone else…
Sharon Williams says

Asda Chickpea Dhal is no longer syn free. Use Heinz as it is now syn free
Cassandra says
Thanks Jan – I’ll look out for that x x
jane says

Lesley Willett says
I blitz the mixture a little into more of a paste – I finely slice 4 large onions – add it to the mixture – put into small muffin silicone trays and cook for approx 20 minutes – tastes just like onion Bhajee's – lot less syns –
Julie Riley says
How can I stop mine from sticking to the loaf tin
Cassandra says
I use a silicone baking tray from the pound shop Julie – it works really well x
Cleardee says
Silicone baking tray sounds great, but if you haven't got round to buying one I just use baking paper to line a tray otherwise it sticks a lot even if you fry light or spray with oil. You end up wasting a lot of mixture stuck in the tin.

Grrrrrrrr Its getting harder to find the Savoury Rice. I hadn't got time to pop to Asda or any of the big supermarkets. Went into local Waitrose and Co-op they only did the microwave stuff !!!!!!!!!

This is one of the flavours. I don't think it can be microwaved tho and needs to be cooked on hob.
Cleardee1 says
Batchelors savoury rice now 1.5 syncs per pack. I've seen that Sainsburys savoury rice ( not basic) all flavours in a packet is still FREE,
Laura says
Just to inform you that the BATCHELORS rice packs now have a syn value of 1.5 syns upwards. The new “now cooks even faster” as they changed the recipe.
Not much of a syn value but wouldn’t want anyone jeopardising their losses
susy says

judie fletcher says

Cass says
I’d just leave it in there until it’s firm – it can sometimes take a bit longer x x x
Hope you enjoy it 😉
Cheryl says

Jane says
