In the last two hours, I’ve had one telephone call from a double glazing company telling me that they are working in my area and would be happy to pop around and give me a quote to get my double glazing replaced and another call from a company who assured me that I could save money by switching to their broadband.
The double glazing lady took it on the chin when I told her that we lived in a new house that certainly didn’t need the windows replacing and politely thanked me for speaking to her and wished me a good night. The broadband man was decidedly less polite and hung up on me as soon as I explained that I was tied in to a contract with my current broadband provider who I was very happy with.
These types of calls are so annoying and to be honest, even if I was interested in something they were selling, I wouldn’t admit this to the caller as I wouldn’t ever agree to something over the phone, even a home visit for a quote as that would mean giving out my details to someone who cold called me.
So, instead of just moaning about them as I usually do, I’ve just registered with The Telephone Preference Service which is a free service recording that you don’t wish to receive any sales or marketing calls. It is then illegal for a company to call you unless they have your consent to do so.
There’s a similar free service that can drastically reduce the mailings that companies send to you as well called the Mailing Preference Service if you’re interested. Again, it takes less than a minute to fill in your details and will cut down on the direct mailings that you get sent.
How do you deal with cold callers?
