Cinema Moneysaving….

Is it me or is the cost of going to the cinema increasing to ridiculous levels?

We were considering a last minute trip to the pictures last week until we realised it was going to cost £25 for a family ticket! We decided against going and instead went to Cineworld on Saturday morning to watch one of their Movies for Juniors films which only cost £1.50 per person.

If you don’t know about Movies for Juniors, they’re brilliant! Our local Cineworld usually show three or four slightly older kids movies on a Saturday morning for just £1.50 – this week for example they’re showing Muppets Most Wanted, How to train your dragon and Percy Jackson.

One thing I did discover though when we were looking at booking to go last week was that Cineworld do an offer called a Take 2 Offer which allows two of you to watch a popular film with two drinks and some popcorn for just £10!

But, and there’s always a but, you need to go on a Thursday night and the offer includes a set film so you don’t get to choose from all the new releases. The good bit is that it seems to be along the lines of the Movies for Juniors format in that Cineworld seem to be selecting slightly older films that were really popular when they were first released.

These great deals got me thinking so I thought I’d have a look and see what other cinemas were offering….

I couldn’t find any deals on the Odeon or Showcase websites but Vue have some offers on kids films similar to Cineworld’s Movies for Juniors deal on weekend mornings. They have films like Despicable Me 2 and Frozen coming up but it looks like their movies vary dependent on the cinema so it’s worth giving your local a call.

They also have a Super Tuesday offer where you will get a third off tickets on a Tuesday if you sign up with them here.

And don’t forget about Orange Wednesdays where you can get a buy one get one free deal by texting film to 241 from your Orange, EE or T Mobile phone.

Or you could just stay at home, watch a DVD and save a fortune…..

We're lucky as we are not far from Kinema in the woods who are a local independent cinema. The sweets are at shop prices and they do a family ticket and take Orange wednesday codes. We still only go a couple of times a year......... Hobbit and Iron man usually ;)

Some great tips here. I used to love going to the cinema but you need a small fortune nowadays. Especially if you have children.

Have you heard of ShowFilmFirst? (http://www.showfilmfirst.com/). If you sign up with them, you can apply for free pre-screenings of films. I'm not sure how regular though?

The cinema is just so expensive nowadays and the price of drinks/popcorn is ridiculous too. I tend to take my own drink and snacks as refuse to pay their prices! x

It is really expensive going to the cinema, especially with drinks and snacks. Last time my daughter went to our local cinema she took her own sweets in and the staff confiscated them because she hadn't bought them there!

I find the cinema an expensive experience, especially when you have a few children.
Our cinema does cheapy Tuesdays and Orange wednesday so we try and go then. We smuggle our own food in too xx

I tend to wait until films are out on DVD. The prices are crazy.....when you factor in popcorn etc aswell!

I know exactly what you mean going to the cinema costs a fortune! We prefer to get it on DVD and buy lots of treats and have a family movie night x

Going to the pictures is a real treat - it's a small fortune for us to go - more so if it's a 3D movie! How they can charge what they do for the snacks/drinks is beyond me!! Films come out so quick on DVD these days, we often wait for that release...only go to the flicks if we REEEEEEEEEEALY want to see it on the big screen! I do love the cinema though :P x

We used to go weekly but not anymore.. prices got way to high and if you add some snack and "crappy" food before or after.... it is just not worth it... these days we watch more things late on DVDs

Empire Cinemas have a great offer too - £1 a ticket for their junior showings at the weekend. There's also the cheap Tuesday offer where it's around £3.50 a ticket. I never pay full price!

I have to say that we tend to wait for things to come out on DVD rather than go to the cinema. I would like to go more though and I should take advantage of Orange Wednesdays...

We never go to the cinema. I don't know why because I used to love going! The girls are getting older now so maybe we'll go this summer, I'll have to see what cinemas we have close to us :)

I am so lucky as my brother works at cineworld and we get to take the girls. I love the £1.50 deals on the weekend mornings :)

Picturehouse cinemas also do a Saturday morning club, where adults and children both go for a pound. You have to buy a membership card for £4 for the year (for the kids) and popcorn for only £1.50, but we always take our own anyway. Get there early though, because they fill up quick!
