Oh You Pretty Things – Christmas Presents….

The lovely Sonia and Mary have started a lovely new linky called Oh You Pretty Things which is all about sharing the stories behind your treasures. There’s a theme each week and this week, it’s all about Christmas presents but before I tell you about my favourite Christmas presents, I want to tell you a bit more about December.

I had a slightly stressful month as we had a few worrying weeks waiting for some test results for Master Frugal. He’s not been sleeping well lately and has been feeling sick and dizzy a lot which has meant we’ve all been getting much less sleep than we need. Add to that some nosebleeds and a small spot he’s had for years that suddenly started bleeding and couldn’t be stopped and I was a very stressed mum.

We had the first bloods done and they called us the morning after to say that there was something wrong with his levels and we needed to go back again in two weeks for a retest but they couldn’t say what was wrong at that point which is what I hate – not knowing what we could be dealing with.

We went back two weeks later (the day before Christmas Eve) and the nurse who took the blood this time said it was his platelet levels that were higher than they should be. I asked her if that was serious and she just told me to wait and see what the next set of tests came back as which caused me even more stress.

I tried to put it to the back of my mind over Christmas but it was always there so even though, I had a gorgeous Christmas, it was a quiet one and certainly one where we did less Christmas activities than we’ve done together in previous years which felt a bit strange as I’m used to cramming in as much Christmas as possible into December.

Anyway, that whole woe is me story above is probably the reason I got more presents than I usually do – I think Mr Frugal felt sorry for me! He bought me an iPad air, some Jo Malone perfume and a Cath Kidston bag among other goodies. Not very frugal I know but I certainly wasn’t complaining.

As lovely as the presents off Mr Frugal were, my favourite present is a homemade present that Miss Frugal made me. She’s been finding her inner crafty self this year with her knitting and crocheting but this is a new one on me:

It’s a fabric covered notebook that she’s embroidered for me and I almost cried when I opened it. Just look at the time she’s put into it!
