Today I’m going to share with you my amazing homemade doner kebab recipe which I’m pretty sure you’re going to love as much as we love!
Mr Frugal is partial to the odd Doner Kebab – usually swimming in grease and smothered in garlic sauce – and without fail, he always regrets eating it within about an hour of finishing it.
So, after hearing about a version of homemade Doner Kebab that you can make in the slow cooker I decided to give it a go and see if my own version could hit the spot like the greasy kebab shop version does.
I looked at lots of different versions of this recipe before I started and they’re all very much of a muchness but I adapted it slightly as I didn’t want to go out and buy anything extra. Here’s our version of a homemade doner kebab…
This Homemade Doner Kebab is a perfect fakeaway for when you fancy a cheeky takeaway. #fakeaway #SlimmingWorldHomemade Doner Kebab {Slow Cooker} {Slimming World} {Fakeaway}….

I made this for lunch yesterday. Totally love it! Thanks for sharing!
5.5 hours nowhere near cooked. Finished off in oven. Good though
How long would I put this in the oven for and what temperature ?
Found your recipe on Pinterest I live in Illinois and I need to know what are the herbs you put in. You just say mixed herbs. Can you be more specific and name them. Thank you.
Waiting for the mixed herb answer is the only thing keeping me from tryig this right away.
Mixed herbs is a mix of different dried herbs which would typically include equal parts of: Basil. Marjoram. Oregano.
I use the Schwartz one here in the UK which also includes Thyme:

Just made this for the second time and just as good as the first. Brilliant substitute to the "full fat" version. Thank you so much.
Could I do this with chicken mince?
Being new to SW would this be syn free if I used a BFree pitta bread as my HEB please?
This might sound stupid but do you need any water in the slow cooker
You don’t need water but when my husband makes it he always puts a teeny amount in as he worries about cooking for so long without it. I don’t bother though ha ha x
I made this ,it's really good ,enjoyed it very much ,well make again
I'm wondering if you could put some sort of broth on the bottom along with the onions and then not use foil. (I would imagine that wrapping meat in foil for almost six hours would impart some sort of metalic taste.) Water w/onions would also prevent the onions from burning and sticking, too, wouldn't you imagine?
I mixed yogurt, water and spices into my ground lamb – and it was very smooshy.
We make this at home, after slicing it goes on a sheet under the grill to get some toasting, then served with salad and wraps!
I found you via Pinterest and was intrigued. My husband was skeptical that I could recreate his favourite naughty supper. I am glad to say that this is perfect. He loved it This was tastier than the takeaway, less greasy and really moist. A definite winner and a happy addition to our regular menu!!!
oh wow that looks AMAZING .. we both love a kabab but hate all the grease and extra calories! this certainly looks a million times better!
This looks great. My older kids would love me to try this recipe x
I've heard about this so many times, but have never seen it made! Your photos show how simple it is and I have no excuse for not trying it now!
OOh what a fab idea, I have to say I have never ever thought of doing my own x
Ohh I totally need to try this – I have a soft spot for doner kebabs but these look so much nicer.
That actually looks yummier than a doner from my local takeaway
Oh my goodness that looks epic! I am always on the lookout for things that can be made at home now I no longer live near a takeaway/home delivery….
That does sound good – I do like them, but I'm always a bit worried about the hygiene and the healthiness, but if you make yourself you know exactly what goes into them.
I can't believe you can make this in a slow cooker – just brilliant! what a great recipe 🙂
This is in my slow cooker RIGHT NOW. Such a simple recipe, cant wait to taste it later
Well done on making the kebabs! We actually did our own version last year and it turned out alright. We also attempted to make our own pita bread which turned out surprisingly well also! Check it out here >> http://skintdad.co.uk/2014/03/doner-kebab-recipe/
Ooh interesting idea. I made my own kebabs recently with fried lamb, it was lovely.
Looking lovely x
