Are you the sort of mother who keeps every work of art that your child brings home or do you wait until they’re not looking and throw most of it in the bin?
What about if I told you that you could keep EVERY single piece of art that your children made without having boxes full of it around the house?
I used to keep everything that they made and displayed it all proudly on the back wall of my kitchen, like a little art gallery. It was always the first thing that anyone visiting my kitchen would be drawn to and everyone always commented on what a lovely idea it was – it was even featured in a national newspaper once (although I can’t find any of the 20 million copies we bought anywhere)!
This isn’t the best picture but this is what it looked like….
But the once steady flow of new artwork started to slow down as they got older and it was no longer the constantly rotating gallery of artwork that it used to be. The pictures that we did have up there started to get a bit tatty and one day last year, our little homemade gallery was taken down.
It made me sad to be taking it all down but I added it to the big box of their creations in the garage and until a few weeks ago, didn’t even think about it again.
I came across the box again when we were clearing the garage out and I noticed that some of the pictures were starting to fade and were losing the bright colours that they once had. Knowing that this would only get worse with time if I left them in the garage, I brought the box inside to try and have a think what to do with them all.
I ended up taking a photo of each one and getting rid of all but about ten really special pieces of their work. The rest are all stored on a memory stick so I can keep them forever but not have to climb over the huge box every time I go in the garage! 😉
How do you store your children’s artwork?
