Mr Frugal and I have always had date nights and electronic free nights but we haven’t been spending as much quality time together as we usually do lately. Not for any particular reason although I think the fact that one or both of us has been ill almost continuously for the last couple of months together with the usual lack of money to do much at this time of year hasn’t helped.
It’s so easy to forget that you need to pay attention to your partner as well as the kids/dog/work/housework/goldfish but it really is important so we’ve got a couple’s to do list for this year. We did this a few years ago and had lots of fun ticking off the things that we’d added to our list at the start of the year so we thought it would be a nice idea to do this again this year.
Have a date night at least once a month – if you can’t get anyone to babysit you can put the kids in bed and have a date night at home.
Go out to lunch while the kids are at school.
Go to a concert together.
Go to a football match together.
Go bowling together without the kids.
Try and go away for a night without the kids.
Go to the theatre.
Go for a picnic together.
Eat fish and chips on the sea front.
Cook for each other and have candlelight dinners.
Hug more.
Go to a comedy show.
Host a dinner party.
Go stargazing at the local planetarium.
Watch films that each other chooses – there are lots of films he loves that I’ve never seen as I just don’t fancy them and vice versa so it’s about time we watched each others favourite films.
Visit somewhere local that neither of us have been before.
Find a game we both like to play on the XBox and enjoy playing it together.
Play board games together.
Casino night at home.
Go to a pub quiz.
Go to the races.
Do a ghost tour somewhere.
Teach each other something – I’m going to teach him how to bake and he’s planning on teaching me how to play some sort of computer game he likes.
Go for walks by the beach and eat ice cream.
Decorate our bedroom.
Visit a restaurant we’ve never been to.
We also have a 25 things to do this year as a family list that you can find here if you want to have a little look see 😉
