If you’re looking for a Frugal Family Autumn Activity which is perfect for social distancing then this is the post for you as I have 30 ideas right here!
Autumn has always been one of my favourite times of the year – these days it’s more because I love the fact that I can snuggle in warm comfy jumpers, drink hot chocolate with marshmallows in and burn as many candles as I want to without someone telling me it’s a waste of a good candle because it’s sunny outside (yes, my 17-year-old judges my life choices constantly). 😂
When the kids were a bit younger though, it was because I loved that we could get wrapped up and get outside and have fun – puddle jumping, kicking up piles of leaves and collecting conkers were all things we used to love doing together.
Now that the kids are clearly too cool to jump in puddles and kickup piles of leaves, I like Autumn for a whole different set of (entirely selfish) reasons. I like that the long days of Summer start to get shorter and there’s more homework and structure to our lives so instead of being out all day with their friends having fun, they’re home a lot more. The nights draw in so it gets darker sooner which inevitably brings them home sooner so there’d more family meals and more time spent together.
Whatever age your family are, Autumn is just a great season to embrace family time and to just enjoy being together so I thought I’d share some of our favourite Autumn activities from over the years. I’ve tried to change it up a little bit for this year so all of the activities are suitable for social distancing – something we’re having to learn to live with and adapt to.
Print it out, stick it on your fridge and work your way through this little lot over the next few months.
Speaking as someone with a 17-year-old and a 15-year-old, I can’t encourage you enough to have as much fun as you can with your kids while you can. I’m super close to my two and we do a lot together still but I know how lucky I am there as lots of my friends’ kids aren’t as keen to spend time together as a family now they’re older!
