Have you noticed how expensive dolls are for kids these days…. Miss Frugal has all the ‘in’ dolls and they have cost a fortune over the last couple of birthday’s and christmas’. We have ‘Baby Annabel’ who spookily moves her head to face you when you talk to her, we have ‘Mommy make me better’ who needs medicine and injections to shut her up and we have ‘Baby Born’ who needs feeding constantly to keep her quiet. The funny thing is although she always goes mad for the latest doll on TV, she always goes back to her favourite – a £7.00 doll from Toys R Us that she has had for years. So she has a line up of posh dolls at the end of her bed but its always ‘Heart Dolly’ who gets to share the pillow and cuddles.
Little Miss Mommy Frugal decided today that Heart Dolly needed her own bed as she was getting a big girl! So….. We decided to make her a princess bed of her own.
As money is a bit tight till pay day this Friday, we decided to do it the extra frugal way and spend no money at all on it. Mr Frugal went and had a hunt through the garage for a suitable box to make the bed and then we went to B&Q; for some wallpaper samples. We got a stack of different ones (Miss Frugal now has one picked out for her bedroom) and a couple of border samples….
All we did is cut a piece of wallpaper the same size as each side and glue it to the box. We used the High School musical border to line the inside walls of the cot and used another piece of wallpaper for the base of the box.
I was going to go the whole hog and make some covers and a little pillow but we found an old pink princess blanket that saved us time.
Heart Dolly loves her new bed, which is now on the floor next to Miss Frugals bed.
