Last Sunday, when the sun shined for the first time in a week, we took the kidsand one of Miss Frugal’s friends to Lightwater Valley for the day and had a fantastic time. Unlike previous visits to theme parks, Miss Frugal wanted to go on everything which is fantastic because I don’t really do rides and Master Frugal certainly doesn’t so now she can go on the big rides with her dad while we get to watch them squealing their way round them all. Her friend bless her didn’t really like the big rides but she was determined to try everything and I have some brilliant photos of her face on some of the rides! I just wish I could share them with you as well as the ones of my two.
I was really surprised how little time we spent queueing for the rides, even the bigger ones – the longest wait we had was ten minutes, which is excellent for a weekend in the Summer Holidays and much better than we expected. The short queues meant that the braver Frugals got to go on some of the big rides as many times as they wanted to while the more cowardly Frugals got to relax in the sun with ice creams 😉 Although those of us that were relaxing in the sun really should know better than to only put sun cream on the children as I managed to come home with a rather unflattering red nose!
There’s plenty of rides catering for everyone and you can see by our photos what a fun day we had. Master Frugal went on the dodgems with his dad at least six times and says that was definitely his favourite ride and Miss Frugal can’t decide what her favourite ride was but she does know that her third favourite was the Twister (don’t ask)….
There’s plenty of places to buy food and drink in there but there’s also plenty of picnic tables for those who decide to keep the cost of the day down by taking a picnic, although to be fair, our pinic was gone by the middle of the morning as we got hungry and sick of carrying the bag around with us. Maybe next time, we’ll have a non frugal day and just buy lunch there.
At one point through the day, I took the girls to the toilet and like typical girls they went in the same cubicle. When I was finished and stood waiting for them, I could hear them trying to decide if they were having the best day of their lives or if they had ever had a better day. After a lengthy debate, the decision was that it was definitely the best day they could remember having but the day they were born was possibly a more exciting day! I think that’s the highest praise that they could give Lightwater Valley, don’t you?
The one downside to the day for us was the number of wasps flying about, Master Frugal has a real phobia of them which meant that we did have a few traumatic moments throughout the day and I spent most of my time watching for them around him so I could distract him before he saw it. I certainly wouldn’t let this put you off the going though as it was an amazing day out for us all and even Master Frugal wants to go back again soon 😉
Thanks to Lightwater Valley for a great day and for providing the tickets for our visit.
