As a family, we love to travel (although Miss Frugal HATES going on planes) and we try to fit in as much as we can but we’re obviously limited by budget and more recently, school holidays. In the not so distant future, we actually all have a week off together so we’re going to try and plan a cheap Easter Break 2014 but we can’t decided what we want to do. The year before last we went on two holidays abroad and if I’m honest, although we did have a brilliant time, the holidays for me were both slightly marred by the fact that I spent half of my time putting sun block on the kids because we all burn just looking at the sun when it’s as hot as it was and the other half worrying about whether I needed to reapply again! So last year we decided that instead of going abroad, we would stay in this country and visit some of the brilliant places that are right on our doorstep. We ended up going away for lots of long weekends and the odd week – Manchester in March, London in April, Thorpe Park in May, Southport in June, Butlins Bognor Regis in July, Blackpool in August, Birmingham and Windsor in October and another caravan somewhere I can’t remember in November.
We booked it all at the last minute and stayed in lodges and caravan parks and even with friends and it all cost way less than a week away would cost. The weather wasn’t great for most of our breaks but we went to museums, theme parks and all sorts and last year was probably my favourite year as a family because we did so much together. But for the week off together that we have coming up, we’re not sure what to do. Whether we should spend our holiday budget for the year on one nice week in the sun – not too hot though. Or whether we should have a year like last year where we do more in this country as there’s lots more we’d like to see and do here too! I do quite fancy a week away in the sun but Mr Frugal wants to do Butlins as we went without him last year (he couldn’t get the week off) and it was amazing so he wants to try it. The kids are on the fence as they just love going anywhere. What would you do?

It’s remarkable to pay a quick visit this web page and reading the views of all colleagues concerning this post, while I am also
eager of getting know-how.
It is also not uncommon for public school teachers to work in overcrowded, dilapidated schools in underfunded districts.

Link exchange is nothing else but it is simply placing the other
person’s website link on your page at proper place and other person will
also do similar in support of you.
Really no matter if someone doesn’t be aware of after that its up to other visitors that they will assist,
so here it happens.
Having read this I thought it was extremely informative.
I appreciate you finding the time and energy to put this
informative article together. I once again find myself spending a lot of time both reading and commenting.
But so what, it was still worth it!
Have you thought about Isle of Man / Wight / Jersey / Guernsey – because you go over the sea it feels a little bit more "abroad" and Jersey / Guernsey is usally a bit warmer than the UK too!
When our kids are the same age as yours, if we can afford to go abroad, I would always pick that. This is because, realistically, you will do things in this country in the summer holidays anyway. This is especially true of someone like you who is always looking for discount codes, offers and freebies so that your family can maximise their fun time. Go abroad and then write about it so ww can all pretend we are there too 😀 x
With 5 kids a holiday adds up. We usually do a house exchange which keeps the costs down and all we have is travel, food and spending costs. This year we have a lot of financial commitments and can't fund a holiday abroad so we are going to stay in our own house and be tourists in our own country. We have asked all the kids to come up with things they would like to do that are do able in a day from home and they have stepped up to the mark and come up with a great and varied list. We'll sit down nearer the time and make a definitive list. We'll have fish and chips, take aways and their fav meals and big picnics when we go out for the day. Ideas vary from visiting castles, beaches, hill walks, going into Edinburgh and being tourists, preserved railways, etc etc etc. It will be lots of fun with 5 mad teenagers!
I find holidays here just as expensive as abroad and I've just found some really cheap flights for the end of August so am seriously tempted although we don't normally go away that late but luckily the kids aren't back till the 8th Sept, so that has a big impact on flight prices.
We loved the log cabins in Nottingham last year. I think we are doing it again this year.
We are planning 10 days in France over the summer. We loved our Al Fresco holiday last year
I'd have to say that I'd do this country, one week away or several visits to nice places – the several visits would always win with me and that way there is always something to look forward to :]
