We’ve had lots going on over the last couple of weeks and I’ve had some lovely, lovely emails from you all which I will definitely reply to when I can but there just aren’t enough hours in the day at the moment so I thought I’d just write a quick post to let you know how we’re all getting on.
So, most of your emails have been about Master Frugal and I’m pleased to report that he’s doing great. He’s still in a bit of pain and he has a pretty scary looking collection of scars on his tummy but he’s on the mend and is in much better spirits than he was.
I don’t think I went into it too much at the time as I was in the hospital with him when I was writing my post about his burst appendix but I don’t think I’ve ever been as scared in my life as I very foolishly googled burst appendicitis and saw the word ‘fatal’! This is the search result I read…
It turns out that a burst appendix is much more serious than I’d initially thought and his surgeon explained that although he thought they’d managed to clear out all the yucky stuff they still needed to treat him with some very aggressive antibiotics and keep a very close eye on him just in case. He went on to say that any complications could cause ‘life-threatening complications’ which to be honest is all I took from that conversation because once he’d said those three words, that and the Google search was all I could focus on until we got the all clear.
It got a bit hairy when they thought the temperature spikes he kept having during the next couple of days could have been a sign of something wasn’t right but eventually, we got told that they were happy he was on the mend although we did have to stay in for five nights before they let us home.
We’re at the stage now where it’s just a case of taking it easy and getting him back to school (who have been so amazing that I ‘almost’ forgive them for the school uniform issue) when he’s ready!
Moving on to Miss Frugal now…
We had a surprise party for her the weekend before last at a local restaurant where she celebrated her 16th Birthday with her favourite friends. We managed to keep it from her until we were in the car not too far away when she noticed on Snapchat maps that all of her friends seemed to be gathering in the same place – coincidentally where we were heading.
They’re such a good group of kids and she’s so lucky to be surrounded by friends who genuinely have her back and are there for her.
She was amazing when Master Frugal was in the hospital and wanted to be there with him as often as possible. She’ll tell you she wasn’t worried about him but she clearly was and her visits really lifted her brother’s spirits which was great to see as he had a couple of days in the middle of his stay in the hospital where he was very down and really fed up.
And as for me? I’m very, very relieved that things turned out the way they did and very happy to have two amazing, happy healthy children teenagers.
