Generally I’m not a big fan of Mothers Day.
Don’t get me wrong though, I love the homemade cards and the cuddles that I get and I certainly don’t object to the gifts but special days make me remember what I don’t have. I don’t have my Mam any more and although she’s in my thoughts all year round, days like this focus my mind on her much more than usual. Facebook had me almost in tears this morning as almost every post is someone saying Happy Mothers Day to their Mum and I desperately wish I could do the same!
But I can’t so today, I’ll be keeping very busy and enjoying all the love that my two are showering me with and later, after they’ve gone to bed, I might have pour myself a glass of wine and allow myself half an hour of looking through some old family photo albums.
I’ve been a little bit spoilt so far, probably because Mr Frugal knows it’s a difficult day for me so he tends to go a bit over the top – I’ve got a camera (because my DSLR is too big to just carry about in my handbag and he doesn’t like the idea of my phone battery dying because I’ve taken so many photos, which happens often) and lovely new scarf that I can only presume that Miss Frugal picked out as it’s lovely and not something he would have chosen at all!
I also got some lovely home made cards which I expected due to all of the activity rushing up and downstairs yesterday for card, glue and glitter!
One Mothers Day greeting I wasn’t expecting though is this one:
Miss Frugal is a newly converted instagram fan and added a picture of us together this morning so ‘everyone could see how lovely I was’. Aaaaaaw, how sweet is that?
Not only that, but she woke me up this morning by Face-timing me from her iPod touch to say Happy Mothers Day to me and to ask if she was allowed to make me a cup of tea and breakfast in bed (her Dad’s at work and she’s not supposed to do things like that without one of us there).
She’s definitely growing up so I’m going to make the most of all the Mothers Day cuddles that she’s giving out today – in a couple of years when she’s on Facebook and Twitter I expect she’ll just send me a message that way 😉
I’m also going to pretend that the cakes she made me are delicious – she made them completely on her own and only needed me to get them out of the oven when they were done. The recipe she was following was out of an Annabel Karmel cookbook and included 1/4 tsp salt but I think she may have put a little too much in as they taste slightly salty!! They look beautiful though, she iced them herself too and I can’t believe what a good job she did….
Happy Mothers Day to all Mums, Mums to be and Mums in heaven today.
