Have you ever heard of Approved Food? If you haven’t, and you’re looking to save some money on your shopping then I think you’re going to like this post.
Before I go any further, I wanted to tell you that this isn’t a sponsored post or a review in conjunction with Approved Food – I just wanted to tell you about the site because it could save you some money as it saves me every time I place an order.
A lot of the time, Approved Food sell products that have a short sell by date or have past the Best Before Date but sometimes they have other things on sale too – where a company has changed packaging for example and want to get rid of their old stocks.
If you’re not a fan of eating products after the Best Before Date then I would recommend you have a quick read of this post which explains the difference between Best Before and Use By dates. The Best Before Date is ‘Best before’ dates are simply the manufacturers estimate of when the quality of their product may start to deteriorate and lose some of its flavour and texture . It definitely doesn’t mean that the food isn’t safe to eat and if I’m honest, I’ve never noticed a difference in taste with anything past it’s Best Before Date.
The only time I’ve been bothered about something past it’s Best Before Date in one of my Approved Food orders was with an orange fizzy drink – I think it was Orangina – which looked a bit odd as the orange had settled and seemed to look almost lumpy. It probably would have been OK after a good shake but I just wasn’t feeling it so I did throw it away without trying it.
If you’re still not a fan of products after the Best Before Date then there is an option in the search function to only select in-date food so you could still save money. If you do select to be shown food after the Best Before Date then you can hover over the picture of the product and you’ll see what the date was – how handy is that?
According to the Approved Foodwebsite, they stock over 2,000 items across a range of departments and on average their customers save around £60 a month compared to high street prices. Due to the nature of the stock they sell, the stock range is constantly changing but I’ve always found that they have my storecupboard staples along with great deals on other things.
I meant to take a photo of this month’s order but it came on a day when I was at work and Mr Frugal was at home and he decided to be helpful and put it all away – I did consider getting it all out again but then I remembered I’ve shared a previous order with you so I’m going to use that photo instead. 😉
I should point out that there are three bottles of ‘Love Potion’ which I’m 99% was described as a mango fruit coulis which I thought would liven up our breakfasts when we were camping – which reminds me that when I did this particular shop, it was just before we went camping so I was focusing on things that would be good for that. I don’t normally buy that much snacky stuff, honest!
Delivery is free if you spend over £55 otherwise it’s £5.99 for a box up to 25kg and £8.50 for up to 50kg so I do try to spend over £55 and do a monthly shop rather than a weekly shop with them. There are great one-off deals but also great deals on tinned goods so I do use Approved Food for my store cupboard staples and often buy bulk where I see a great deal.
I do recommend having a look at the Approved Food website as it saves me money on a monthly basis so I’m pretty sure it will save you money too!
