We've had lots going on over the last couple of weeks and I've had some lovely, lovely emails from you all which I will definitely reply to when I can but there just aren't enough hours in the day at the moment so I thought I'd just write a quick post to let you know how we're all getting on.So, most of your emails have been about Master Frugal and I'm pleased to report that he's doing great. He's still in a bit of pain and he has a pretty scary looking collection of scars on his tummy but he's on the mend and is in much better spirits than he was.Concussion/appendicitis … [Read more...]
How we support our local food bank….
I can't imagine what it must be like to not have enough money to feed my children and luckily, that's not something that I've ever had to worry about.Lots of families across the UK aren't that lucky though and it makes me sad to read that between the 1st April 2017 and the 31st March 2018, The Trussell Trust’s foodbank network distributed a massive 1,332,952 three day emergency food supplies to people in crisis across the UK which is a 13% increase on the previous year. That's just such a sad statistic - to think that in 2018 there are so many families who genuinely just can't afford to … [Read more...]
My Festival of Thrift Thrifty Haul 2018….
It's that time of year again! The Festival of Thrift is an annual festival held in the North East to celebrate sustainable living and for the last five years that I've been going, it's absolutely been my favourite day of the year.I love everything about it although it's really hard to describe it to people who've never been and I can never quite put into words what it is that I love about this event. The brochure says that it's 'a big weekend of sustainable arts, music, fashion, food, entertainment, shopping, demos, workshops & more' which pretty much sums it up to be … [Read more...]
Five Frugal Things we did this week {21 September 2018}….
Every week I share five frugal things that I've done during that week just to show you that the small things you do all add up to a great frugal lifestyle where you can learn to live a fabulously frugal life. Before I start though, I do want to say that being frugal to me is about getting the best value for our money - it's not about doing without for us or about not having nice things. We all have different financial situations and we're all frugal for different reasons - we're frugal so we can afford to do nice things together.1) It was Miss Frugal's 16th Birthday last Sunday and … [Read more...]
A (belated) back to school barbecue….
Every year since the kids started school we've had a bit of a celebration on the Friday evening of their first week back at school. It started because they were both always so grumpy and tired by the end of their first week back and we wanted to basically take their mind off their moodiness until bedtime and a movie night with popcorn and treats used to be the perfect solution. The movie night morphed into a games night as they got older and it got harder to agree on a film and then changed again into a nice family meal over the last couple of years. This year we were planning a family … [Read more...]
Ten ways to reduce food waste NOW….
I first published this post five years ago but when I sat down tonight to write a whole new post about how to reduce food waste, it felt a bit like deja vu and then I remembered this post and thought it would be easier just to give that a polish up and and share it again rather than write a whole new post!We all know that we shouldn't waste food, don't we?But are we all actively taking steps to make sure that we don't actually do it?In the UK alone we throw away about 15 million tonnes of food waste a year and just in case you've never really thought about it before, you're not … [Read more...]
