A couple of things have happened lately that have made me more aware than ever just how old my lovely old Dad is getting - he's always been such a strong, independent (and stubborn) man so it's hard for me to see him as anything but the Dad I'm used to.I think he's struggling with it all too if I'm honest and I know he hates asking me for help but often has no choice these days - the dilemma for me is when to step in and offer my help without him feeling a little bit useless. It's a subject I want to write about but right now, I think I'd go off in a million and one tangents to do with … [Read more...]
The perfect spicy bean burger recipe….
Today I'm sharing the perfect spicy bean burger recipe with you!A couple of week's ago we went bowling to a place called TenPin in York and treated ourselves to a cheeky burger and fries while we were there. I had a spicy bean burger and it was honestly the nicest burger I've had in a long time!I've been trying to recreate the recipe but I couldn't pin down the various different tastes and I can't find any info online so my version is very different to the one I was originally trying to recreate. It's still a lovely spicy bean burger though so I thought I'd share it with … [Read more...]
Slimming World on a Budget {Week 3}….
So, rather embarrassingly, my last Slimming World update was way back at the end of January and I don't have too much more to report since then as I've struggled more than I expected. My first struggle was that I was getting stomach cramps on about day 2 or 3 each time I tried it for some reason so I gave up each time. My specialist mentioned that Slimming World may not be the best diet for me to follow as it doesn't necessarily encourage the best eating habits ( apparently the 'free' foods can encourage over eating of the wrong foods) and he suggested I give Weight Watchers points system … [Read more...]
5 un-frugal things that I spend my money on….
Mr Frugal was having a read through of my blog last night and he made me smile when he said how frugal I sounded from all my frugal posts this month and he wondered what you would think of some of the very un-frugal things that I choose to spend some of the money I save on.He said that some of you would be very un-impressed with some of the things I spend my money but I think he's wrong. I said you would understand that one of the reasons that I choose to be frugal in some areas of my life is so that I can be un-frugal in others.Let's see what you think of some of the un-frugal things … [Read more...]
Five Frugal Things I’ve done this week {3 March 2017}….
1) Did you see my post last week where I mentioned how we'd booked a cheeky little family trip to Milan for the May half term week? Don't worry, I'm not going to try and class that as something frugal (although it was an AMAZING deal costing us less than a few nights in London going on the train) but I did do something during the booking process that saved us a fair amount of money so I get to class that part as frugal, don't I? I didn't book any hold luggage as there were extra fees for that that would have bumped the price of our booking up. Looking at the size of the cabin baggage allowed … [Read more...]
Travel – an enriching experience or a waste of money?
Travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer!I can't remember where I first read this travel quote (it was probably a Facebook meme to be honest) but the words really stuck with me.We're not the sort of people who can sit on a sunbed all day (well, Miss Frugal is but the rest of us aren't) and we don't even like the heat that much as we all burn so quickly so we've mostly holidayed in the UK over the last five or six years. There's so many places to visit and things to see and do here in the UK that we haven't seen nearly as much as we'd like to see yet but even … [Read more...]
