Christmas makes me want to get in the kitchen and get creative more than any other time of the year and it seems to have the same effect on lots of you judging by some of the amazing treats that I see being shared on Instagram and in my Facebook feed!A couple of weeks ago, we were planning a baking session to make some treats for the Christmas fayre so I asked my friends on Facebook for some Christmas treat inspiration and I'll be honest, I was slightly overwhelmed with the response!I thought I'd share them all on here with you so you could do a little bit of festive baking … [Read more...]
Encouraging Gratitude in Children at Christmas without cutting back on the presents….
Christmas is often a difficult subject for me to write about from a 'frugal' perspective because, as much as I shop around for the best deals and set myself a budget depending on how much I've saved throughout the year, I don't think it's a time when I'm particularly good at being frugal. When I started writing this blog, the idea was that as a family we'd try and live a more frugal lifestyle and I think we've done a pretty good job for the most part. We're much more financially aware than we were back then and we do things that we know we should be doing to ensure that we save money where … [Read more...]
Wanderlust (and a gift guide for the wannabe traveller)….
I know you're all in full on Christmas planning mode but this morning I've been feeling a bit meh so I've been thinking about some plans we've made for 2017 which I hope is a much better year for us than this year has been.Because I haven't been well for much of the year, we've had to have an enforced slow and relaxed (AKA boring and dull) second half of the year. There's been so many plans that I've had to cancel and so many lovely experiences that we've had to say no to because they were just too much for me to manage. I'm almost better now though and will be back at work very soon I … [Read more...]
What to put in a Christmas Eve Box….
Christmas Eve is my favourite day out of the whole festive period and although I have a post planned to tell you all about our day and what we do a little bit closer to the day itself, I'm going to tell you about one part of the day now. I'm going to tell you about our Christmas Eve box which we've been doing ever since the kids were born - in fact, I think we've been doing it since before Christmas Eve Boxes were even a thing. We started doing a Christmas Eve box because I used to have something similar when I was little and it was a tradition that we decided to continue with our two … [Read more...]
12 Reasons why your Elf on a Shelf forgot to move last night….
The Elf on a Shelf tradition is one that passed us by when the kids were young enough to really believe but we've definitely got on board in the last few years and it's now a bit of a running joke in our house now that our elf, Jingle, arrives with us on the 1st and proceeds to get up to as much mischief as he possibly can.Personally, I don't put too much effort into it because the kids take great pleasure in making him do naughty things and then denying all knowledge that they've moved him (either that or Jingle really is a naughty elf). The first year that Jingle came to stay with us … [Read more...]
Five Fabulously Frugal Things I’ve done this week {9th December 2016}….
1) This is a sad day for me! I went to the shop last night, got all excited when I saw the Radio Times was out and then saw the price of it so put it back on the shelf! Since when did the Radio Times cost £4.50 for the Christmas edition!!!We don't watch TV much at all so it's a total waste of money for us but I would have bought it if it had been a bit cheaper as we like to look through it and highlight what we want to watch. We can just save a fiver though and look at the TV Guide we get with our TV package.2) While I've been ill convenience foods have been a bit of a … [Read more...]
