Christmas shopping was so much simpler when the kids were younger!Their Christmas wishlists were so predictable that I could do most of my shopping for them even before I asked them to tell me what they wanted for Christmas. Those were the good old days - the days of dolls and dressing up and of Lego and magic tricks and the days where it was probably more about quantity than quality if I'm honest. Now, at the ages of 14 and almost 12, Christmas is a whole different ball game.Last year, I tried to make it more about experiences than gifts because I'd rather give them memories than … [Read more...]
Homemade coconut oil bath melts….
Miss Frugal love a good pamper, as do most teenage girls I suspect. At least once a week, she'll disappear into the bathroom with various products and come back out smelling like a walking version of a Lush shop. She has bath bombs, bubble wands, bath melts, hair shampoo she buys herself that costs double what mine does and that's just products. On top of that there is every type of buffer, sponge and cloth known to man in there too!Last weekend I dropped her off at the train station and made her promise not to buy any more bath related smellies - in exchange for this I promised her … [Read more...]
Does this happen in your house when one child is naughty?
In our house, something very odd happens when one child isn't behaving as well as they should be.Take last night for example, both kids came in from school happy and smiley and went upstairs to change out of their uniform. They were both a bit tired so they sat relaxing with me for a while downstairs while we caught up on our days although Mater Frugal was more interested in when he could get on his Xbox to play FIFA 17 at that point if I'm honest.Miss Frugal and I had a slight disagreement about something totally random and she had a little mini sulk. As soon as Master Frugal realised … [Read more...]
What we’re eating this week – the one with all the batch cooking….
Tomorrow's the day that I'm going into hospital for my operation - it's nothing huge and nothing too dramatic but I'm probably not going to feel much like cooking for the next few days. I've had lots of offers of help from some very lovely people but I think that my batch cooking has paid off as I've just written my meal plan and it's mostly made up of things in the freezer that just need defrosting and re-heating!I know I haven't shared my meal plans on here for a while but today seems like a good one to share with you....Monday - This week's only faffy tea is Chicken Souvlaki kebabs … [Read more...]
Why you should join English Heritage….
A year ago we went along to a local priory for a quick look around and ended up signing up for an English Heritage annual family membership. The decision to join English Heritage was definitely a spur of the moment decision but it's turned out to be a good one as we've had so much fun with it and as far as value for money is concerned, the membership ended up paying for itself within about three weeks if I remember rightly! Our favourite property by far is Whitby Abbey and we've visited there about five times over the course of the year using our membership. We even went on Halloween … [Read more...]
Organised October has arrived….
I'm not sure why but every year as I turn the calendar from September to October, my thoughts turn to de-cluttering the house. I start to think about just how much 'stuff' we've accumulated since our Spring de-clutter and how the house is started to look as though it's going to explode the next time the postman brings us a parcel. These thoughts usually lead to a weekend (at least) long house de-clutter where I take over the living room floor with piles of things to sell, things to donate and things that just need to be got rid of. Mr Frugal busies himself on his PS4 with the odd trip to … [Read more...]
