No matter how thrifty or frugal you think you are, I'd bet my mortgage that there are more things that you could be doing to save even more money. I've written loads in the past about my favourite money saving websites and apps so I thought I'd do a little bit of a round up today so they're all in one place. The first ten of the best websites I now on the internet are featured here, I won't list them all again but it's well worth having a read through as there are lots of great ways to save money....The next seven must-visit websites on my list are all amazing blogs - I shared them … [Read more...]
This week’s meal plan {25th January 2016}….
My meal plans are a bit all over the place at the moment as I'm still getting used to Slimming World and learning to adapt meals that I know we all love so that I can continue to enjoy them whilst following the plan. I haven't mastered it just yet so you'll see that on a few nights this week I'm planning to cook two separate meals which I try not to do usually but there are meals I want to try that I know not everyone in the house will enjoy.I'm popping to the shop probably four nights a week at the minute but just to check the reduced section for reduced fruit and veg and I also have … [Read more...]
Small things that make me smile {January 2016}….
A couple of week's ago I told you that my word for 2016 was Happy and that my plan was to do things that make me happy and try not to do things that don't make me happy. Sounds simple, doesn't it?But my focus on being happy isn't just limited to what I do or don't do - it's also about appreciating the smaller things in life that aren't really a big deal to anyone other than me because these small things add up to make my life a happy one. I thought I might get into the habit of sharing a few of them with you every month....I love how happy Master Frugal is at school - he's such a … [Read more...]
Five Frugal things I’ve done this week {22 January 2016}….
1) I'm not sure that this really counts as being thrifty or frugal but I managed to make it through to January pay day without completely running out of money! Getting paid early in December added together with Christmas and paying the deposit on a holiday has meant that it really has been a tight month though so I'm proud that we managed it.2) You might have seen my post earlier in the week where I've started running in an attempt to get fit. I downloaded the free couch to 5k app and am following that at the moment rather than joining a gym and paying out each month. I'm certainly not … [Read more...]
Getting fit the frugal way….
Apparently, by the end of January, a third of those people who joined the gym as part of their New Years Resolution to get fit will have already stopped going* and that in the UK we wasted £37 million every year on unused gym memberships.**I thought about joining the gym myself a few weeks ago but I decided against it as I'd already joined Slimming World which is just under £5 a week so an extra £20-£30 a month didn't really appeal to me.Not that a gym membership is a bad thing - it's an investment in yourself and if you know you're going to stick to it then more power to you. … [Read more...]
How one small change saves me money on my shopping every single week….
OK, I don't think I'm going to blow your mind here but I did want to tell you about a change I made a few months ago to my shopping habits that's saved me some money!I used to go shopping on a Friday night after work and in theory, I would buy everything we needed to get us through to the following Friday except for a mid-week mini shop for fruit and veg where we needed it.The problem was that we're all at home for most of the weekend and with a fridge full of food we were more likely to snack - not only on treats but on things like carrots (Miss Frugal loves carrot sticks), yoghurts … [Read more...]
