It's been a massively busy week this week and it feels like I haven't had time to do anything, let alone anything frugal but I've had a good think and managed to come up with five.... Five frugal things I've done this week: 1. Miss Frugal is very particular about the style of her school skirt as she doesn't like it too short (I'm sure that won't last), she doesn't like it too tight and she certainly doesn't want a flarey style as she worries it'll blow up in the wind! She loves the skirt she has now though so when I saw them on sale this week in New Look, I bought an extra one in her … [Read more...]
Our top five favourite family board games….
I've said before a couple of times that I don't necessarily agree with limiting screen time for children - it certainly doesn't work for us as a family and even if it did, I'm more an advocate of giving them other options to encourage them away from electronics. One thing I make sure we do together is play - we play cards, board games and even have family xbox tournaments together. No matter what the kids are doing or planning to do, if I suggest a family game night they will always say yes. And some of our happiest family moments have been sat around our dining room table playing … [Read more...]
Wednesday’s Wardrobe –
I'm really pleased to share with you that I'll be joining in with Wednesday's Wardrobe each week along with the very lovely Emma and the also very lovely Sarah. I hope to be sharing lots of clothes bargains with you and also getting the kids involved a little bit to show you their favourite clothes!First up Miss Frugal....As the parent of a headstrong 12 year old who has (and always has since being a toddler) very strong opinions on the clothes that she does and doesn't like to wear.Although I know there are some of you who will no doubt say that I'm the parent and what I say … [Read more...]
Five ways to make your freezer work for you….
You don't need to have a big freezer to make your freezer work for you - trust me, I know this from experience! With a little bit of organisation, the smallest of freezers can help make life easier for you. Batch cooking This is a great one, especially if you use your slow cooker a lot. I regularly make extra portions when I'm cooking things like chilli, mince and bolognaise and I pop a family sized portion in the freezer ready for another time. It means that I have a homemade 'ready meal' sat waiting in the freezer when I need it which is a godsend when I finish work at half two and rush … [Read more...]
Mini Egg Omelettes – Great for breakfast on the go, Slimming World or just for a Yummy snack….
One of my favourite ways to use up leftovers is to make slow cooker fridge bottom frittata and I was planning to cook it last night for tea but clever me decided to make a batch of homemade tomato sauce when I got home from work without thinking that I'd be needing to use the slow cooker for the frittata! So instead of making one big frittata to use up some leftover bits and bobs, I decided to make mini frittatas in the oven instead and actually, now that I've made them this way I think they would be great to make for breakfasts and mini snacks as well as being great for those of you … [Read more...]
Slow Cooker Chocolate Tea-cup Cakes (baked in china tea cups)….
Last Summer Master Frugal bought me a beautiful set of mini cups and saucers from the car boot sale. He saw that I liked the set and then talked his Dad into taking him back (pretending to go to the toilet) to buy them with his own pocket money. They were beautiful but I had no clue what to do with them really so they've just been gathering dust - until today!I decided to attempt to make some cakes in them using the slow cooker and seeing as they actually turned out really well, I thought I'd share my success with you. ;-)I used my recipe for Baileys Cupcakes as I'm planning on … [Read more...]
