Did you know it was World Water Day tomorrow? No, me neither. In fact I'd never even heard of it until Master Frugal mentioned it to me yesterday along with a bit of a lecture on how lucky we are living in the UK to have free access to clean water available to us just by turning on a tap. He's right of course because as we all know, sadly there are a lot of families around the world who don't have this.I had a quick Google and it seems that World Water Day is observed each year on 22 March. The day, which was established by the United Nations was first celebrated in 1993 but more … [Read more...]
Five Frugal things I’ve done this week to save money {20th March 2015}….
Five frugal things I've done this week: 1. I bought some lovely cushions on sale a few weeks ago from Dunelm Mill. They were reduced to £2 each and they were so pretty that I bought them intending to use them in my little living room makeover. As pretty as they were though, they just didn't go with anything else so I gave them to Miss Frugal to use on her bed as she loves girly cushions. The only problem is that the cushions she has have started taking over her bed so she ends up throwing them all on the floor every night and I end up nagging at her to pick them up again the next day. … [Read more...]
Apple and Banana Cake….
I have no idea why I've never tried making apple and banana cake before!I have them both in my fruit basket on a daily basis but I've never thought of putting them together until today. I can tell you one thing though - now I have tried an apple and banana cake, we'll definitely be having it more often because it's delicious. Banana and Apple Cake Squares 225g softened butter 1 egg 3 mashed bananas (mine were on the small side so I needed 3 but I'd say 2 would be OK ususally) 1 apple grated (I dabbed mine with some kitchen roll so it wasn't too wet) 1 capful of Vanilla essence 125g … [Read more...]
How much appliances really cost when you leave them on standby….
It's estimated that the average family could save at least £80 a year by turning off appliances instead of leaving them on standby when they're not in use.Clearly this is nothing new as most of us are fully aware that we should be turning things off (although whether we actually do or not is another matter) but I found it quite interesting to read a list of how much each appliance actually costs to run on standby. You can see the full list here but the ones that stood out for me are these:Wireless Router - £21.92Printer (Laser) - £18.26Set-top box (Sky) - £18.26Hi-Fi - … [Read more...]
Happy Birthday Me….
Dear Me, Happy Birthday! Love Me x xDear Miss Frugal, It's great that you swept the kitchen floor for me to save me doing it on my Birthday. Next time if you could just finish the job by using the dustpan and brush rather than leaving the pile of mess in the middle of the kitchen floor for me to stand in and trail around the kitchen that would be awesome. Love from your frustrated at having to do it again Mother x xDear Master Frugal, I love that you bought me a present using your own pocketmoney but just a hint for next time - get me something I'll like and not something you want … [Read more...]
12 things you said you would never say but I bet you have since becoming a parent….
I remember being a little baffled (love that word) by some of the things my Mum would say to me when I was a child. The younger version of me used to wonder what jumping off cliffs had to do with going with my friends to the shop when I was supposed to be playing in the street and what was this benefit that I would feel when I went back outside? And as for our house not being a hotel, well I knew that already because if it was then I wouldn't have had to make my own bed every morning would I?So the younger version of me promised herself that she would never use these silly phrases when … [Read more...]
