I can't believe how quickly 2014 has flown by!It feels like only yesterday that I was sat here reflecting on how fast 2013 went by and making a list of my goals for the year and here I am again doing the same thing for 2015.I'm doing things a little bit differently this year though because as much as I like a good New Years Resolution, I can be a little bit over ambitious and set targets for myself that I am unlikely to achieve. This year I'm choosing a few key words that I want to focus on and although I'm not going to bore you with the specifics, I have lots of ideas for each area … [Read more...]
Perfect Presents for Dads….
I just realised that I wrote a gift guide for tween and teen girls (based on Miss Frugal) and one for boys aged 9 ish (based on Master Frugal) but I haven't done anything for Dads.Dads are the hardest people to buy for if you ask me - my Dad gets a bottle of port and a big slab of blue stilton every year without fail as that's all he wants and as boring as it may be, at least I know he'll enjoy it.Mr Frugal isn't as easy to buy for though - he doesn't like experience days or things like that, he's not big on clothes (unless it's a football shirt), he likes his music but usually buys … [Read more...]
Have an attitude of gratitude – the Christmas edition….
Anyone who knows me will tell you that I love a good list and wouldn't be surprised in the least to hear that somewhere in early November (may have even been October) I sat down and wrote a list of Christmas crafts and activities that I was going to blog about. I had one thing to write about for ever day leading up to Christmas and I planned to fill my evenings with crafting, baking and other Christmassy activities. But then the 1st December finally arrived and I readied myself for the marathon month of posting and suddenly, I didn't feel like it. I decided that I didn't want to fill my … [Read more...]
Frugal Family Traditions….
A couple of years ago, when I was asked if we had any family Christmas traditions, I said no because I didn’t really think the things we did were traditions – they’re just small things we do every year to make Christmas that bit more magical to us as a family. As I was saying it, I realised that what we’re doing is making new family traditions, traditions that I hope the kids will want to continue as they get older and more importantly, will do with their own children in years to come.My favourite tradition is probably making a video for each of the kids using Portable North Pole although … [Read more...]
Don’t fall into the Christmas trap….
Christmas is not about having tins of Quality Street and Roses stacked high in your cupboard.Christmas is not about filling your cabinet with alcohol.Christmas is not about emptying the supermarkets of fruit and veg.Christmas is not about eating until you feel sick on Christmas Day and then going back for pudding half an hour later.Christmas is not about who’s tree looks the nicest.Christmas is not about buying the most expensive toys and gifts.Christmas is not about sitting in front of the TV all day watching repeats of shows you’ve seen more times than you can … [Read more...]
