Since we got our trampoline a year or so ago, our garden has been one of the most popular places to play in the street. In fact, until the net was blown down in the storms a few weeks ago, one of both of the kids went on it practically every day and learned all sorts of tricks and fancy moves. Even the snow didn't stop them!At all hours of the day in all weathers, I've listened to them laughing and playing together, running in rosy cheeked and laughing to make sure I stopped everything to watch whatever their newest move was before running back out again to jump some … [Read more...]
Wanted: One Knitting Nana….
There are so many reasons why I miss my Mam that I couldn't possibly list them all here and just when I think I'm doing OK, another reason for me to miss her comes along and I feel sad all over again. It happens quite often to be honest but the most recent time was just a couple of weeks ago.Miss Frugal asked me to teach her how to knit as she wants to knit a baby blanket and I thought I'd give it a go as my Mam taught me how to knit when I was her age. I stupidly thought it was like riding a bike and that once I got the needles and wool in my hands, that I'd remember what to … [Read more...]
Half Term at home….
I know that it's irrational but sometimes I do feel guilty when I have to work through the school holidays. I actually have a great job that I do enjoy and I'm very lucky in that I can drop the kids off at breakfast club in the morning and be finished in time to collect them from school at 3pm so during term time, I'm happy. School holidays are different though because I often feel like they're missing out because I'm working. This means that I tend to come home at 3pm and try and fit a whole day's worth of activities in to the space of a few hours! Even when I … [Read more...]
Girls Only Night – Quick and Easy Non Alocoholic Mojito mocktail recipe….
It's no secret that my favourite cocktail is a Mojito and Miss Frugal is following in my footsteps as her favourite drink is a Mockito which is the non alcoholic version of a Mojito so when we decided to banish the boys and have a Girls only night, we knew what we'd be drinking! To make our version of a Mockito, we just chop us some fresh mint and put it into the bottom of a tall glass. Next we half a lemon and squeeze the juice into the glasses over the mint before chopping the limes into small pieces and adding the chunks to the glasses. We then use a wooden spoon … [Read more...]
Carrot and Courgette Muffins….
These carrot and courgette muffins taste way nicer than they sound and are perfect for freezing for packed lunches. When I was rooting around in my fridge yesterday morning looking for some sort of lunch inspiration, I found a couple of courgettes that were looking way past their best. I also found a few tired looking carrots so I thought I'd try making some carrot and courgette muffins as a way of using them up rather than putting them in the bin.The finished result was delicious although they were quite moist (hence me adding in the step to the recipe of using kitchen roll … [Read more...]
50 filling and frugal packed lunch ideas….
Do you struggle for interesting but frugal packed lunch ideas?A couple of years ago I wrote about how I could make a healthy and filling packed lunch every day for around half of what I would pay for a school dinner and whilst I know that rising prices would have changed the costings a little bit, I can still make a packed lunch for less than I would pay for a school dinner.I still make the packed lunch cake and the cheesey pops (like cheese straws) on a weekend sometimes to use in the following week's packed lunches but as the kids have got older, they like a bit more variation in … [Read more...]
