I've just read on the MoneySavingExpert website that if you are required to wear a uniform (even just a t-shirt) for work and you wash, repair or replace it yourself, then you could be eligible to reclaim tax you have paid and although it doesn't add up to too much per year, I believe that you can apply for repayment for the past four years which will get you a nice little repayment that could come in handy. It's worth looking into if you can say yes to the following:You wear a uniform that shows you've got a certain job, like a branded t-shirt or a full uniform. You are required to … [Read more...]
Today we sailed, we sunk and then got robbed….
Today we decided to enter the Tots100 Center Parcs challenge (although to be fair we decided to do this at the weekend and the heavens opened as soon as we opened the door to the craft cupboard) which meant that we had to build a boat and then sail them.I was torn between taking over the making over the boats so that they would at least float for a few minutes and I had visions of a lovely one made of pastel coloured paper with a lovely floral Cath Kidston sail but in the end, I decided to let the kids do their own thing.Which is why we ended up with two bright looking crafts that … [Read more...]
Den Building with BattleBox….
Last week we had an amazing day out in London as guests of Battlebox. We got our camo make-up on and managed to build ourselves a den to be proud off. In fact, I'm almost positive that ours was the best one (don't tell the other lovely bloggers who were there that I said that though) because not only did we get a lot of help Scott the survival expert, ours also had the added bonus of having a carpet made of magazines as Miss Frugal didn't want to sit on the muddy ground! We had a fantastic day and it was lovely to speak to the creator of Battlebox to hear why she started the company. It … [Read more...]
Does it Hurt when you get your ears pierced?
When Miss Frugal decided that she wanted to get her ears pierced, the question she kept asking was 'does it hurt when you get your ears pierced' and when I say kept asking, I mean she asked it repeatedly for about a week before she managed to convince herself to take the plunge! She was terrified before getting it done, so much so that I think the lady in the shop thought we were forcing her to get them done and kept asking her if she was sure. It also didn't help that the lady who was doing them for her kept nipping over to the till to serve other people as she got more nervous the longer … [Read more...]
#SummerofFrugalFun – how to make a children’s Treasure Hunt….
Today we've been making a treasure hunt for Mr Frugal when he comes in from work and it took me back to the ones we used to do for the kid when they were younger. We haven't done one for ages though so we thought it was time to sort that out! We're starting with one for Mr Frugal - mainly because he's not in at the minute so clue writing and hiding is much easier but also because we haven't seen him in a week as we've been away so the kids wanted to do something for him as a surprise.Obviously, the idea of a treasure hunt is to follow a series of clues that will ultimately lead you … [Read more...]
Win tickets to visit Thorpe Park this Summer….
Remember how much fun we had when we went to Thorpe Park?Well now you can have the chance to have just as much fun because I'm giving away tickets to one lucky reader. You can either have 4 adult tickets or a family ticket for 2 adults and 2 children and all you have to do to win them is to leave me a comment to tell me if you prefer rollercoasters (like Mr Frugal and the kids) or the slower, more gentle rides like the Carousel (more my cup of tea). And if you're not lucky enough to win this competition, you can still get a great deal on your tickets because at the moment, if you … [Read more...]
