I know I said that I don't usually do much of a meal plan over the Summer Holidays but it's driving me mental at the minute.Meal times are usually laid back in the Summer because (a) I never know how many we're having for tea, (b) we don't really stick to a schedule as we like to be out as much as possible and (c) we don't know whether our day might involve an impromptu picnic (which would usually come out of the food budget). But this Summer, I feel like my food budget is just running away from me and not only are we spending way more than we should be spending, we're also at the shop … [Read more...]
The hardest parenting decision yet….
Warning : This post contains a serious amount of question marks!I have a decision to make soon.Although actually I think I've already made the decision, I'm just not sure if it's the right one.Miss Frugal is going up in to Year 6 when she goes back to school in September and yesterday, I got the forms for choosing a secondary school for her to go to. We have two choices really - the Academy less than five minutes walk from our house with the not so great Ofsted report or the Catholic school that's a bit further away with the excellent Ofsted report. On paper the decision should … [Read more...]
#SummerofFrugalFun – where to look when you’re out of ideas….
We're more than half way through the Summer Holidays now and if you're anything like me, you're probably running out of ideas for keeping the kids occupied. It turns out that even though I had a list quite literally as long as my arm filled with things that we could do together, we have run out of ideas for things to do (other than the days out that we have planned in) with nearly three weeks left to go.On the plus side, we've had an amazing three weeks so far - we've done so much fun stuff and spent so much time together and we can't wait to see what fun the next few weeks will bring … [Read more...]
How to spend less on Gas and Electricity….
Make sure you have the best deal available to you....With the ever rising cost of gas and electricity, we should all be making sure that we're not only getting the best deals available to us but also that we're only using what we need to use and making the best of what we do use.It sounds like a lot of work but it's really not and to be fair, you're probably already doing a lot of it and the Summer is a great time to make sure that you're doing as much as you can so you're ready for when the cold weather kicks in.The first step is to make sure you're paying as little as possible … [Read more...]
My Happy Place….
I started writing this post a while ago when we were having a cheeky week away in Southport and due to the lack of Wifi and the nine million and twelve other things that make up my to do list but I never actually got around to finishing it until now....I have a happy place, a place in the world that makes me happy just by being there. This place brings back many memories of family holidays when I was younger -holidays that involved me, my Mam, my Dad and my brother and I treasure these memories all the more now that my Mam and brother aren't here with me anymore. My happy place is … [Read more...]
The best bits of Week 3 of our Summer Holidays….
After the madness of last week at Butlins and everything we did while we were away, we've tried to have a much more relaxed week this week although we've still done quite a lot in as I'm concious that I'm back at work tomorrow for the next two weeks so we won't be doing as much then. So this week Miss Frugal has had her ears pierced, we've been to Knowlsey Safari Park and Lightwater Valley, we've built boats and sailed them, had a picnic at the park and played frisbee and family baseball, been to our local museum and even managed to fit in a pyjama day while we watched movies and played … [Read more...]
