I'll start by saying that I'm really not that big a fan of Doctor Who. I just don't see what the fuss is all about if I'm honest but the rest of my family are huge Doctor Who fans so I tolerate it for them. Just.So you can imagine my disappointment when we went to Liverpool last week and a poster we saw on the train advertising some sort of Doctor Who exhibit at Spaceport put paid to my plans of wandering round the shops and Albert Dock. Instead I ended up ferrying across the Mersey on a very cold windy day to get to this place so we could look at Daleks and Cyberman. Whoo Hoo.Like … [Read more...]
80 ideas for your bored jar….
Do you have a Bored Jar?I've seen a few posts lately (like this one from Jen) about people making 'I'm bored' jars filled with ideas that are randomly chosen whenever anyone mentions the dreaded bored word and a quick search on Pinterest tells me that the makeshift jam jar filled with bits of folded paper is woefully inadequate* - just have a look at this little lot.(*only joking, it's the ideas that count not the presentation although there are some works of art on there aren't there?)We decided to update our I'm bored jar and make our own version using coloured lolly … [Read more...]
Planning the best Summer Holidays ever – part one….
We're on Summer Holiday countdown here at the moment, even though we still have a couple of weeks to go yet.I'm not sure who's more excited about the holidays this year. The kids because they have six long weeks of fun stretching ahead of them or me because this year I actually have three weeks off with them - two near the start and one at the end.I've just read a post about the Free Range Summer that Jen's planning for her two boys this year and it's made me start thinking about what we're going to be doing ourselves.I'm a planner so I like to know what we're going to be doing … [Read more...]
20 of our favourite websites for children….
As much as I love to encourage the kids to play outside wherever possible and to do other none computer related things when we're in the house, I have to accept that they're going to want to play on the internet! For the most part, I'm happy for them to use the internet - Miss Frugal is required to use it every week to research her homework anyway and I genuinely believe that the right amount of time on the internet is good for them, as long as you make sure that you know exactly what they're doing online. We use a mix of educational sites and fun sites and I do limit the amount of time … [Read more...]
Happy Birthday to us….
I know you all know and you're just not letting on that you know.In a minute I'm going to go on Twitter and you're all going to tweet me at once and say 'Surprise' and 'Happy Bloggaversary' because obviously you all know that today marks four years since I started blogging!Seriously though, I can't believe that I've been blogging for four whole years - the time has just flown by and I've loved every minute (well most of them anyway). made some brilliant friends. As a family blogging had given us some amazing experiences and for me personally, blogging has given me more confidence … [Read more...]
Getting Organised – and staying that way….
It's no secret that I'm not the most organised person in the world ;-)But I am trying and I've been experimenting with different ways to be more organised because I know that I really do need to be better, not only with time management but with remembering dates and places that we need to be. I took the above photo on the beach last week while I was sitting in the sand feeling more relaxed than I have done in a long time and I'd like to have more moments like that and less of the kind where I'm running around trying to organise something at the last minute.I've tried using the … [Read more...]
