Last Friday night I was supposed to be going out with some friends from work for a meal and a few drinks as it was someone's leaving do. Mr Frugal had to work until 9 o clock so rather than get someone round to look after the kids, I said that I'd miss the meal and meet up with everyone afterwards when he could take over babysitting duties.Except by the time it came to half past eight when I should have been starting to get myself ready to go out, I really just couldn't be bothered! I'd had a cheeky glass (or two) of wine in preparation for my night out and I was snuggled up sleepily … [Read more...]
Should celebrities be role models for our children….
I originally wrote a slightly different post to this last weekend after we watched Louis Suarez bite the arm of one of his opponents during a football match. It was completely intentional and although he wasn't actually sent off during the match, he was later given a ten match ban as punishment which he has today accepted. When I first wrote this post, I was so annoyed that someone who is looked up to by so many young children had done this. Shouldn't footballers, especially one who is supposedly paid £100,000 a week, set a better example for our children. And not just footballers, what … [Read more...]
Why it’s time to DITCH your drier….
Before we moved to the house we live in now, we used to have a tumble drier and if I'm honest, we probably used it at least four times a week. It was always just so easy to do a quick mid-week wash and pop the clothes in the tumble drier to dry them ready for the next day and with two small children, my tumble drier was probably my most used appliance.Apart from the obvious costs of using the tumble drier itself, there was also the cost of the extra (usually half full or less) washes that I did through the week because I knew that I could dry the clothes quickly in the tumble … [Read more...]
Stop calling me….
In the last two hours, I've had one telephone call from a double glazing company telling me that they are working in my area and would be happy to pop around and give me a quote to get my double glazing replaced and another call from a company who assured me that I could save money by switching to their broadband. The double glazing lady took it on the chin when I told her that we lived in a new house that certainly didn't need the windows replacing and politely thanked me for speaking to her and wished me a good night. The broadband man was decidedly less polite and hung up on me as soon … [Read more...]
Houses for sale for a pound….
I thought it was a late April Fool when I read that Stoke council are selling off houses for just a pound but it's true and now that I've read more about it, I think it's a great idea.Basically, the houses that are being sold off are in a bit of a rundown area and they're in need of lots of TLC. The council are selling them on the condition that the buyers agree to do up the houses, live in them for at least five years and commit to being a part of the community. They're also only available to people who have lived in the area for at least five years with no assets and no property … [Read more...]
What if you just can’t afford to pay the bills – would you take out a payday loan….
There may be times when you just don't have enough money to last you until your next payday. It's bad enough if it's just a one off for whatever reason but if it's every month and you're struggling to pay your bills then you really need to get some help as soon as possible. Don't think that by ignoring the problem that it will go away or magically get better. The fact is that the longer you leave it, the harder it is to sort out and once you face the facts that you do need help everything else is a piece of cake.I wrote about the things you can do here last year but what's prompted my … [Read more...]
