I get a few e mails each week asking me how I manage our monthly budget and if I have any tips to help others to manage theirs so this week, I'm going to share a few of my tips for calculating your monthly budget, reducing your outgoings and how to make sure all your bills are paid on time. Most of these tips may seem like common sense but I thought it might help you to know what I do....Work out what your monthly budget is First of all, I sit down every few months and calculate my monthly budget. After this month's review,I know that I should have around an extra £500 a month after … [Read more...]
Family Friendly Frugal Meals – Slow cooker sausage, bean and chorizo casserole….
I should quite probably win the award for the longest title to a blog post with this one!Is there an award for that in the MADs? If not, Sally then you should take note for next year ;-)Anyway, I've had an interesting week this week and *mostly* managed to stick to last week's meal plan so I'm ready to go with next weeks. We're starting to eat more Wintery type food seeing as it's October and the heatings back on so this week's menu has a lot of what I think of as comfort food - not sure how that's going to work with my diet though.Monday - Sausage, chorizo and bean … [Read more...]

We're loving Sunday's since we started Cupcake Sundays, although I can't say that they're doing my diet much good ;-)Today's cupcakes of the day are Lemon and Ginger Cupcakes and they're quite possibly my favourite ones so far! 10 Frugal family fun ideas to beat the Autumn blues….
September is never a great month here - we go from the long lazy days of the Summer Holidays back to getting up early and having to settle back in to the school routine. Add to that the fact that the kids get tired and crabby while they're settling back in at school. Oh, and don't forget the obligatory cough/cold/flu/stomach upset that most children are likely to pick up in the first few weeks back.So you can see why I'm not a great fan of September.October's good though and it's October on Monday so we're through the worst of it I hope. The kids are both recovering from a bug (me … [Read more...]
Saturday is Caption Day – the one with the bad parenting….
What would you do if you saw a sign on some steps outside the very posh British Museum telling you not to sit on the steps?Obviously, you would all force your rather unwilling child to come and sit down on the steps right next to the sign telling you not to sit down on the steps wouldn't you? Or is that just me?Now that I've shared my bad parenting with you (I didn't even mention the bit where the security guard told us off for touching the Roman tombstones thingys), you get to leave a comment with your funniest caption for this photo. And when you’ve done that, you can join in … [Read more...]
Just say No (or Yes)…..
Warning - Shouty, whingey alert! If your child comes home with an invite to a party (assuming they haven't lost it in the deep dark depths of their book bags), what do you do?Me, because I like to think I'm a nice, courteous kind of person, I reply to say 'yes thanks we'd love to come' or 'no thank you, we can't make it'. I would then add it in to my phone as a reminder because I do have a history of forgetting parties until about five minutes before! Not everyone would do the same though.Last week was Miss Frugal's birthday party and we invited 40 children (don't ask), up … [Read more...]
