I've just made some cake pops for Miss Frugal's sleepover tonight and they've gone down so well that I never even got to try one! I'm going to share the recipe with you anyway though but you'll have to trust the word of three nine year old's and a six year old that it was a success ;-)For the cake pop: 1 Sponge cake - I made one using the classic Victoria sponge recipe of 100g sugar, 100g butter, 2 eggs and 100g flour. 80g white chocolate 50g butter Few drops of vanilla extract 100g icing sugarOnce your cake has completely cooled you need to crumble it as finely as you can … [Read more...]
Where would you hide if you were a passport….
Where would you hide if you were Mr Frugal's missing passport?Would you hide in the drawer in the kitchen? Apparently not although I did find a bill that I forgot to pay two weeks ago....What about in the suitcase we used last time we went on holiday? No, not in there either although the sandwich bag with mouldy food in was a delightful surprise....Under the bed? No room under there with the all handbags, books and other junk but the dust from checking made me sneeze for about ten minutes....What about the Glove box in the car seeing as we *may* have taken it out to use … [Read more...]
Listography – 5 things that make me happy….
Following on from my post about what makes the kids happy, I'm going to join in with this week's Listography and tell you 5 things that make me happy.... Fridays - I love finishing work on a Friday afternoon knowing that I have the whole weekend ahead of me. My Kindle - I wasn't sure about getting a Kindle but now I have one, I couldn't be without it. I love reading and I've read more lately than I've read since before the kids were born. Mr Frugal bought himself one too and we love going to bed early and snuggling up with our Kindles (we like to live on the edge :-)). New bed feeling … [Read more...]
The Happiness Project….
I read a lovely post the other day over at Kate Takes 5 about what makes people happy, she ended by asking people to sit down with their children and ask what made them happy. So here you go, this is what makes my two lovelies happy....Miss FrugalI love the thought she put in to this, it's a bit scary for me to look at because it shows how quickly she's growing up - limos, make up and her laptop are all on there instead of princesses and pink things!Master FrugalAw, I think this shows what a loving little boy he is, the things that make him happy really reflect his … [Read more...]
Meal Planning Monday – Shopping from our cupboards….
Thanks to a rather expensive (but apparently essential) car repair last week, we need to try and spend as little money as possible between now and pay-day. That means that this weeks meal plan is going to be a 'whatever we've already got in' week. Luckily, my freezer has quite a lot of reduced bargains that we've picked up from the supermarket at the end of the day recently so we shouldn't starve....Monday: Sausage, egg, chips and beans.Tuesday: Macaroni cheese.Wednesday: Salmon Fishcakes in buns with homemade potato wedges and salad.Thursday: Either minced beef and onions … [Read more...]
Five ways to keep your romance alive – without spending a fortune….
We've been married now for almost 12 years and together for almost 17 years! Our relationship has changed a lot over the years and I'd be lying if I said it had all been plain sailing but I think we're happier now than we've ever been. We've learned that we need to remember that we're not just parents, we're also husband and wife and if we want to stay happily married we need to spend quality time together as a couple and not just as a family. If you Google 'cheap dates' or something like that, you'll get lots of suggestions telling you to go for a walk on the beach, give each other a … [Read more...]
