I'm working with Britmums and British Gas at the moment on a campaign to help educate people about energy conservation which is perfect timing as my next post about how to have a Frugal New Year was going to be all about reminding you how to save energy as a family. I know I'm always going on about saving energy but it really is important and to make sure you really get the message, I'm going to share with you something that my daughter was taught at school: Using Less Energy = Lower Energy Bills + Less Impact on the Environment To a 9 year old it's a no brainer really, why would you not … [Read more...]
A Frugal New Year – Let’s start with meal planning….
Meal planning is probably the single biggest change I made when I started out on my frugal journey and it's something that I continue to do (almost) every week. I'm not perfect though and if I'm honest, there are plenty of times when we don't stick to the plan for one reason or another but on the whole, we do quite well and have managed to reduce our food shopping bill by a fair bit.I'm not going to insult your intelligence by telling you what meal planning is or how to do it but I will tell you how I do it and hopefully, if you meal plan too, you might share how you plan your meals in … [Read more...]

Nutella Mousse – Perfect for Christmas (or any other time)….
You really can't go wrong with a pudding made from just three ingredients can you? Especially when one of the three ingredients is Nutella....Nutella Mousse 170g Greek yoghurt or fromage frais 250g Nutella 1 Milky Bar (or something else to top the mousse with to make it look pretty)Whisk the Nutella and the Yoghurt together and pour into a serving dish. Grate some white chocolate over the top and pop in the fridge until it’s time to serve it.I tend to add a little (or a lot) of Baileys to the mix for a more grown up version of this mousse and I think it would probably be … [Read more...]
Frugal Christmas – How to make a Gingerbread House….
This year we decided to make a Christmassy Gingerbread House, largely because Miss Frugal saw a beautiful one in the school raffle and misguidedly thought that we could make one that looked just as good! It didn't work out quite as planned but it looks presentable so I thought I'd share how to make one with you so you can make your very own....To make the Gingerbread you need: 350g plain flour 175g brown sugar 100g butter 1 egg 5 tablespoons of golden syrup 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda 2 teaspoons of ginger (we used more because we love the smell of the ginger)Add the flour, … [Read more...]
What I’ve learned this week….
I've learned that I must be more specific when giving instructions!I took Buddy for his pre-Christmas cut this week and asked the lady to cut him shorter than last time as he's taken to rolling around in the mud which is a nightmare to get out of his fluffy coat. I left him in the shop blissfully unaware that what the lady actually thought I'd said was 'Please shave all the hair of my cute fluffy puppy'.This is the photo I took last time he had a hair cut....This is him now... He's now walking round with an air of slight embarrassment about him and is … [Read more...]
