My mam died five years ago next month and there hasn't been a day gone by since then that I haven't missed her.I miss her so much and even now, it hurts me when I think about how much of the children's lives she's missing out on. Sometimes I just want to stamp my feet and scream that it's not fair that she died. I don't know if I'll ever stop wanting to pick up the phone to tell her some small thing that's happened during the day or if I'll ever stop talking to her like she's still here with me but I do know that one of the reasons I miss her so much is because she was my inspiration. … [Read more...]
Teaching Children to Recycle….
We all know how important it is to teach our children how to recycle but if yours are anything like mine, they like to learn in a fun way that they can understand - which is why I love the new Coca Cola Recyclometer tool. We've been using it for the last few weeks now and it's been excellent for showing the children (and me) just how big an impact the small action of recycling something can have which in turn has made them much more enthusastic about recycling. We have a recycling bin in the kitchen that we put our recycling in and when that gets full we move the rubbish outside where we … [Read more...]
Family Friendly Frugal Meals – Peach Cobbler….
This is the third week I've been ill and it's really starting to get me down a bit now - I have no energy, I feel bleugh and I can't stop coughing! The Dr has just signed me off work for a week and prescribed me with some stronger antibiotics and some steroids so fingers crossed I should be sorted soon.... This weeks meal plan reflects my lack of energy as I've cut as many corners as possible ;-)Monday - Sunday Dinner leftovers - I cooked extra potatoes and yorkshire puddings yesterday so all I had to do today was zap them in the microwave, cook some veggies and serve with the leftover … [Read more...]
I know it’s only October, but….
There's only 78 Sleeps to go which is just 3 pay days. I now it's only October but I'm going to start my 'How to have a Frugal Christmas' series now because if I wouldn't be a good Frugal blogger if I didn't tell you that you should have started shopping (or at least planning) by now. Christmas happens at the same time every year so there's no excuse - it's not like we don't know it's coming or anything. The first of my 'How to have a Frugal Christmas' is all about presents - don't panic though I'm not about to send you all out shopping or anything but I hope that I can help you plan what … [Read more...]
The Gallery – Ginger….
When I saw this weeks theme for the Gallery was colour, I thought of this picture straight away, even though I may have shared it with you before at some point in the past. My children often tell me that they love having ginger hair, they love that people come up to us in the street and tell them what beautiful hair they have and they love that not many other people in school have the same colour hair as them. At this point I could get on my soap box and tell you that I've come across some ridiculously titled facebook groups lately, the most recent of which being 'Always be yourself (unless … [Read more...]
My Top Ten Winter Preparations….
After this weekend's freakish (but very welcome) mini heatwave, there's a definite chill in the air tonight. So much so, that I've just had the heating on for an hour to warm the house up which is only the second time I've needed it on since before the Summer. Don't get me wrong, I'm not the sort of person who waits until there's icicles on the end of our noses before I turn the heating on but I do try to balance having it on as little as possible with having a nice warm house. I'd love to be the type of person who could just put on an extra couple of jumpers and pairs of socks rather than … [Read more...]
