It's Miss Frugal's ninth birthday next month and she's started making plans for her party already. In fact, she has a birthday party notebook (any excuse for stationery in this house) detailing her plans for the event of the year and I was just reading out her demands requests to my dad over the phone when he reminded me of one of my birthday parties when I was around the same age. I remember the party he means because he hired a camcorder (yes, hired it) for the day and spent the whole day filming everything, including my Nana arriving with my weekly copy of Twinkle aswell as my mam and … [Read more...]

The Princess and the Kind Good Witch….
This is a true story that may or may not have happened to me at work today ;-)The Princess and the Kind Good Witch Once upon a time there was a beautiful princess. One day the a kind good witch came across the princess as she was getting out of a lift at work and noticed that she'd been crying. 'It's OK' said the kind good witch 'we all have days like that'. She gave the princesses arm a squeeze and carried on about her duties.Later on in the day, the princess had forgotton all about the incident when the kind good witch visited her with a lovely cup of tea. Magpie Monday – The School Holiday Edition….
For the last few months I've been keeping an eye out for things to help me keep the kids occupied during the Summer holidays and I've managed to build up a nice little collection of things that I'm hoping will keep them quiet.... For a while anyway ;-) A Go-Kart for £2.50Rollerblades for Miss Frugal for £1.50. I also bought a training pair for Master Frugal for £1.00A big basket of Bratz dolls clothes for £1.00 - It's a bigger basket than it looks in the photo and has about 100 items in it. I asked the price and when the lady said it was just a pound, I hesitated as I thought … [Read more...]
Another Day at the Hospital….
Thank you for all your lovely messages (by e mail and Twitter) wishing Miss Frugal well for her hospital appointment today. Unfortunately, it didn't go as well as we hoped as we were told that even though the brain scan she had last month was clear, we're being referred to a brain surgeon who is an expert in a particular type of tumor that they want to rule out - an Acoustic Neuroma. Apparently some of the symptoms that she has point to this and as it's a slow developing tumor, it's possible that it's still so small that it didn't show up on the scan. We now have to wait for the … [Read more...]
Teachers Presents – Do you or Don’t you?
With the kids breaking up on Friday, they're starting to pester me about end of year thank you presents for their teachers ;-)Miss Frugal has 3 (yes, 3) teachers that she wants to buy for as she has her own class teacher, her favourite teaching assistant and because she has most of her lessons with the year above, she also wants to buy for that teacher aswell. Master Frugal has only 1 to buy for but even so, that means I have 4 presents to sort out by Friday. In the past (pre frugal days), I just used to pop to Tescos on the way to picking the kids up from school on the last day of term … [Read more...]
