In our quest to try and live a more frugal lifestyle (note the word try ;-)) we regularly review our monthly budget and try to shave off a few pounds here and there. In the last year or so, we've actually saved quite a bit so I thought I'd share our top tips with you all. I blogged about using cashback companies last year here and I can't recommend them highly enough. Basically, if you register with a company like Quidco you can earn cashback on your internet shopping. I always review my home and car insurance when they're due for renewal along with my telephone and internet deals … [Read more...]
Bank Holiday Bargains and a Finished Project….
Seeing as Miss Frugal's hasn't got home from last nights sleepover yet, we decided to take Master Frugal to the car boot sale this afternoon to buy him some treats to cheer him up a bit and we couldn't have picked a better day to go - loads of stalls and not many visitors We got two 'awesome' Spiderman cars for him for 50p each, Spiderman on a bike (that lights up, makes noise AND moves) for 50p, a batman on a bike and a batman moster truck for 50p, a bag full of knights (for the Knights castle we bought a few weeks ago) for £1.00 and a free pirates ship as the man wasn't wanting to take … [Read more...]
Such a Lovely Day….
We've had one of those rare days today, you know the ones where everything is good. We had a lie in this morning, then we went off to the park for a few hours to play rounders and frisbee (and make daisy chains ;-)). Miss Frugal's gone off to a sleepover (in her custom painted skirt) and Master Frugal has spent the afternoon in the garden with the dog or out the front with me riding his new bike - hence the dirty feet lol. Everything's quiet now and I'm sat with an ice cold glass of cider looking at the photos I've taken today with a big smile on my face. What's your day … [Read more...]
Family Friendly, Frugal Meals – Chilli….
Inspired by the lovely Jen at the Madhouse whose brilliant article about feeding your family on £50.00 a week has just been published in the Guardian, I'm determined to reduce the amount of money that we spend on food each month. We have a grocery budget of £250.00 a month at the moment which is for 2 adults and 2 children. This covers all of our meals at home, packed lunches for me and the kids as well as all of our other household stuff. We used to be pretty good at sticking to the budget but lately I've been so busy that I haven't been doing our shopping online or been meal planning as … [Read more...]
How do you deal with Attitude….
I know it's not ideal to get parenting tips from Harry Enfield but when I think about my children growing up, I always picture Kevin from that Harry Enfield sketch - you know the one where he goes to bed on the eve of his thirteenth birthday as a sweet, loving twelve year old and gets up the following morning as a moody, hormonal teenager.Unfortunately, Miss Frugal has decided to ignore the Harry Enfield book of parenting and has started her teenage moods early which I'm finding extremely challenging at the moment. To be fair the moods are few and far between but we've had a couple in the … [Read more...]
Possibly the worst hairstyle you’ll ever see….
I posted this a few months ago originally but seeing as it's my worst ever fashion disaster, I decided to repost it to enter in to the April Tots 100 Blog Hop. Afer all, you couldn't possibly get more of a disaster than that hair could you?Miss Frugal has just discovered that our new printer has a built in scanner so you can imagine what we've been doing tonight. Yep - the house and everything in it has been now been scanned to within an inch of its life! After about half an hour of scanning random drawings and magazines I decided to brave the garage (filled with boxes and spiders) … [Read more...]
