Today in the Frugal household, we have one ill (and whingey) five year old, one very energetic eight year old, one very tired mummy and one absent daddy.Trying to find something to keep us all occupied and happy was a bit of a challenge this morning but we managed a happy hour or so making some homemade books. All you need for this is a sheet of A4 paper, some colouring pens and a pair of scissors so it was ideal for us today as we couldn't be bothered with any faffing about. We followed the instructions in the video below to make the book - it literally takes a minute to do and is … [Read more...]

Special Things….
If I asked you to choose one cherished object from your house and write about it, do you think you could? Do you think you could choose just one thing? No, me neither! When I read that the prompt was for this weeks Friday Club was ' a cherished object in your home', I knew I was going to have problems narrowing it down and I spent last night wandering round the house with the camera round my neck. Thanks for that Ella ;-) Only joking - it's a great idea for a theme and I actually had a lovely night with Miss Frugal talking about our special things, she loves to hear the story behind … [Read more...]
No Wonder I’m Exhausted….
I've seen those signs you get for the back of your car that say 'Mum's Taxi' but I never thought that I'd need one myself ;-) We have activities every night of the week at the moment!I think I'm over compensating for the fact that until recently the kids didn't really join in with many after school activities. I used to work 8.30am - 5.45pm four days a week so I was never at home to take them but since I reduced my hours at work to spend more time with them, we've signed up for everything that takes their fancy and the quality time I had envisaged us having together is mostly spent in the … [Read more...]
Operation Makeover: I found my first project….
Operation Makeover is now officially underway and seeing as I've found some lovely bargains this week, I though I'd share them with you as part of Magpie Monday ;-)I managed to find a new first project (after losing out on the lovely sideboard I won on ebay last week) and I think it's going to look brilliant when it's done. I'm going to sand it all down as I don't really like dark wood and then paint it in a creamy colour I think. I might even change the handles on it if I'm feeling really adventurous. Inspired by Jen, I went on a charity shop hunt for a glass cake stand and was … [Read more...]
America Day….
I've been trying to think of ways to teach the kids about other countries and cultures whilst having as much fun as possible. Both of them have a huge map of the word on their walls and they're at the age now where they're relly interested in what other children around the world do.The first country they wanted to learn about was America so we decided to have a themed America Day....I showed them America on their maps and we compared it to the size of the UK and then we had fun making our own little Stars and Stripes flags and sticking them on to cocktail sticks. We also tried to … [Read more...]
