Today was the first day back at school for my two and I was a bit gutted because I had to be at work for 8am this morning, I left strict instructions with Mr Frugal to make sure he took the customary back to school photo and e mail it to me at work so I could have a proud mummy moment.
I was so organised (which is not like me at all) that last night before bed, I lovingly ironed their uniform and labelled every item with my trusty sharpie. I laid out everything they needed on the settee so when they got up this morning all they needed to do was get washed and dressed.
Before I went to work this morning I laid out the breakfast things and made their packed lunches and I even moved both book bags to next to the front door.
Everything should have gone like clockwork and I should be proudly showing off my two beautiful, smart children…. However, somehow it didn’t go to plan and the photo I recieved at work was not quite what I’d hoped for (although they’re still beautiful lol):

Working from the bottom up we have Master Frugal in his Ben 10 trainers and Miss Frugal in her spotty socks, there is a distinct lack of school jumpers on both of them and Miss Frugal has done her own hair and managed to put a slide in although I think she forgot to introduce it to the hairbrush this morning. They have their packed lunches but forgot their bookbags – they must have literally stepped over them to get out of the door!
Despite looking like little ragamuffins they had a good first day back although Master Frugal is a little shocked that he is expected to work now that he’s in Year1 – ‘It’s not like Reception Mam, they make you work all day!’ and Miss Frugal has cleverly managed to lose her packed lunch box and forget her coat.
To give you an idea of what this picture should have looked like, this is their last school photo:
So I’ve learned a valuable lesson today (and I didn’t even need to go to school for it)…. If you want something doing properly, Do it yourself!
Bonus – I’ve just remembered that the theme for the Gallery this week is Back to school (I told you I always left it late) so I can use this post 😉

I've mastered it now – hang them on the door handle lol
What a lovely picture. Loving those socks too! Did they have a good first day back?
We did a blog post on our tips for back to school pics here: http://blog.photos.truprint.co.uk/make-a-photo-bo…. Would be good if anyone had any feedback or comments to make.
They had a great first day back – socks and all…. I'll pop over to your post now x
Hee hee great post! At least he tried 🙂
I suppose he did the best he could lol….
Brill post – don't leave the hubby to do anything lol…!
I wish you'd told me that before lol
You made me laugh 😉 Men are so typical, they can never do the same job as us ;))))
lol although if you ask them, they'll say they can do it better!
At least you can feel that you are definitely needed.
Geeky daughter also started on year one today and came out proclaiming it was brilliant. I was almost as worried as I was when she started reception but of course she was fine.
Our teachers say you can ALWAYS tell when Daddy has got the children ready for school!!
Lovely pic though.
Thanks 😉
You can always tell when he's got them ready, usually because they're running through the gates as the bell goes off!
I learned that a long long time ago about if you want a job doing properly do it yourself!!!!
Your children still look very cute though.
Are you from the North East of England as I noted you said 'mam' and not 'mum'. I'm a Geordie but live in Worcestershire and my son calls me 'mam' but when I am work in school I have to remember to say mum cos that's what they say around here.
Yes, I'm afraid it's a bit of a shock, you do have to work in Year 1.
Some children at our school managed to forget their drinks bottles even though it was the first day – some said mum couldn't find it!!!
Ha ha – I won't make that mistake again. Next year I'll dress them!
I am from just near Middlesbrough 😉 The kids always call me mam or mammy but I try and write mum on the blog as I always think mam looks a bit funny written down. Sometimes I write it with out even thinking about it though.
My e mail address for some bizarre reason is Frugal Mom so I must have been immersed in american kids tv the day I set that up!
They look adoreable – I got through the day too – only just, but I managed!
It looks like your two are settling in brilliantly – it's a great idea for you to volunteer at the school x
lol, love these Daddy moments, they both look fine though, and good that they enjoyed their first day back
They did have fun – I just wanted a smart kodak moment lol
