After the success of our sticky lemon muffins on Friday night, we thought we’d have a go at making some of the lovely looking recipes on the recipe cards that Nintendo sent us last week.
Please be warned, our finished cakes look nothing like the ones in the picture because I let Miss Frugal make them on her own while I had a lazy bubble bath and the biscuits don’t really look like I wanted them too either as we had no yellow food colouring so the stars are more orange than yellow.
Anyway….
We used Cookie Girl’s recipe to make our Red Velvet Mario Mushroom Cakes but we added some red food colouring to the icing as well and spread it over the cake with the intention of it looking like some sort of mushroom. Then we added white chocolate buttons to the icing to finish off our mushroom effect. Add a little face to the cupcake case and you can almost imagine that it’s one of the Mario Kart Mushrooms (if you squint a little).
We decided to make biscuits as our second project and we used our favourite biscuit recipe for that which is so easy and great to use with cookie cutters as it doesn’t spread when it cooks.
100g butter
50g butter
175g plain flour
- Cream the butter and sugar
- Add the flour and mix until it’s all combined in a ball of dough.
- Roll out on to a floured surface and cut our your shapes.
- Bake at 150 c for around 10 minutes.
You can ice them how you want but we wanted ours to be Nintendo stars so we used orange icing.
