Miss Frugal has been asking me for ages now if she can have a go at making her own bath bombs and I always put her off because there are so many different methods of making them out there that call for ingredients I wouldn't normally have in the house. It finally got to the point where I couldn't put her off any longer so last weekend, I gathered the ingredients we needed and sat and watched her make her version of homemade bath bombs and actually, they came out OK. I don't think we're going to be up there with Lush but I do think that she might actually be able to pull of her plan to … [Read more...]
What to buy a teenage girl for Christmas – as written by a teenage girl….
No-one can give better advice on what to buy a teenage girl for Christmas than a teenage girl herself so for this Christmas gift guide, I've drafted in Miss Frugal and her Picmonkey skills to help me to help you with what to buy the teenage girl in your life for Christmas. It didn't quite go according to plan though when I saw that the first gift guide she produced had a distinctly un-frugal feel to it. We decided to name that version the 'Splurge' version and include it anyway for those who are splashing out this Christmas and I asked her to do a second, more budget conscious version … [Read more...]
Warming split pea and ham soup….
My Nana used to make the BEST split pea and ham soup in the world and almost every time we visited her, there was a bowl of her special soup simmering away on the stove with some delicious dumplings in it, just waiting for me.I must have watched her make it at least a hundred times and I remember all of the ingredients as well as if she were here making it with me today. What I don't know is how much of everything she used to add because she never used her scales to measure out the soup ingredients - it was always a bit of this, some of that and a dash of this. No matter how many times I … [Read more...]
Five Fabulously Frugal Things I’ve done this week {21st October 2016}….
1) Last weekend Miss Frugal and I had a DIY day which basically consisted of me sitting at the table with my camera while she did all of the work, making everything from bath bombs to our homemade bird feeder and from Chocolate chip banana bread to copycat caramel macchiatos. I've got so many posts to share with you over the next few weeks filled with inspiration for homemade Christmas presents but more than that we spent some lovely time together which hasn't happened much lately while I've been ill.2) I have made a definite dent in my Christmas shopping and bought a couple of gifts … [Read more...]
Amazing Chocolate Chip Banana Bread (with optional Nutella Swirls)….
Yesterday was my favourite day for ages as Miss Frugal and I had a girly afternoon in the kitchen together. She made all sorts of Lush inspired goodies and I baked some delicious chocolate chip banana bread which I'm just about to go and serve up to Mr Frugal with a cup of tea since I've got him painting the living room today. I hope he likes it as much as we enjoyed our slices yesterday! This is a great way to use up bananas that are just on the turn and to be honest, it's just as lovely without the chocolate chips and the Nutella so if you don't have them, don't buy them just to make … [Read more...]
Five Fabulously Frugal Things I’ve done this week {14th October 2016}….
I'm not going to lie, it's been difficult to be anything but thrifty this week as I've spent most of it in bed recovering from my operation last week but I think I've got enough to get to five.... Maybe. ;-)1) Mr Frugal has been wanting to pre-order a game for his PS4 for the last few months and I've been putting him and trying to delay it as I HATE that games are so expensive. It's not even like we could shop around for this one as the one he's after is a pre-order online with Playstation and you get loads of extras by pre-ordering. Grrrrrr!I managed to save a little by buying … [Read more...]
