My Nana used to make the BEST split pea and ham soup in the world and almost every time we visited her, there was a bowl of her special soup simmering away on the stove with some delicious dumplings in it, just waiting for me.I must have watched her make it at least a hundred times and I remember all of the ingredients as well as if she were here making it with me today. What I don't know is how much of everything she used to add because she never used her scales to measure out the soup ingredients - it was always a bit of this, some of that and a dash of this. No matter how many times I … [Read more...]
Five Fabulously Frugal Things I’ve done this week {21st October 2016}….
1) Last weekend Miss Frugal and I had a DIY day which basically consisted of me sitting at the table with my camera while she did all of the work, making everything from bath bombs to our homemade bird feeder and from Chocolate chip banana bread to copycat caramel macchiatos. I've got so many posts to share with you over the next few weeks filled with inspiration for homemade Christmas presents but more than that we spent some lovely time together which hasn't happened much lately while I've been ill.2) I have made a definite dent in my Christmas shopping and bought a couple of gifts … [Read more...]
Amazing Chocolate Chip Banana Bread (with optional Nutella Swirls)….
Yesterday was my favourite day for ages as Miss Frugal and I had a girly afternoon in the kitchen together. She made all sorts of Lush inspired goodies and I baked some delicious chocolate chip banana bread which I'm just about to go and serve up to Mr Frugal with a cup of tea since I've got him painting the living room today. I hope he likes it as much as we enjoyed our slices yesterday! This is a great way to use up bananas that are just on the turn and to be honest, it's just as lovely without the chocolate chips and the Nutella so if you don't have them, don't buy them just to make … [Read more...]
Five Fabulously Frugal Things I’ve done this week {14th October 2016}….
I'm not going to lie, it's been difficult to be anything but thrifty this week as I've spent most of it in bed recovering from my operation last week but I think I've got enough to get to five.... Maybe. ;-)1) Mr Frugal has been wanting to pre-order a game for his PS4 for the last few months and I've been putting him and trying to delay it as I HATE that games are so expensive. It's not even like we could shop around for this one as the one he's after is a pre-order online with Playstation and you get loads of extras by pre-ordering. Grrrrrr!I managed to save a little by buying … [Read more...]
A few of my favourite UK frugal and thrifty bloggers….
{I published this back in 2015 originally but I've discovered some brilliant frugal blogs lately that I know you'll love as much as I do so I thought I'd start to update it. Once I started, the list grew from about 10 to 30 so if I were you, I'd go grab a cuppa and take a bit of time to have a good read through them all to see if you find a few new favourites. If you don't have time now then you could always Pin it for later. ;-) } There's nothing I love more than sitting down with a cup of tea and a jaffa cake and getting the chance to read some of my favourite blogs in peace. … [Read more...]
Stop spiders the natural way….
I know there's nothing to be scared of about spiders and I try to be brave for the sake of the kids as I don't want them to grow up scared of them but when I see one of the little eight legged creatures in the house, I can't rest until it's gone.Mr Frugal is great at rescuing them and freeing them in the garden, far far away from the door and I have an amazing next door neighbour who fills in for him when he's not here but I'll be honest, I'd rather not see them at all. This time of year is particularly challenging as they all seem to want to come inside and make their way to whichever … [Read more...]
