1. I've up-cycled a cake board into a memo board this week which saved me throwing away the cake board! You can have a read about how I did it here if you fancy having a go yourself.2. We're now into our second week of feeling under the weather but I'm pleased to say that we have (almost) stuck to our meal plan which is no mean feat when you have as little energy as I've had this week! There was one night when I replaced what we had planned for dippy egg and soldiers because I just couldn't face cooking (or actually leaving the sofa for more than two minutes to be honest) but for the … [Read more...]
How to make a memo board from an old cake board….
Miss Frugal turned 13 recently and a very lovely person made her the most amazing Birthday cake.....It was perfect and believe me, it tasted every bit as good as it looks and every single bit of it was edible apart from the cake board that it was sat on, which brings me to the subject of this post!I really didn't want to throw the cake board in the bin as that seemed like an awful waste, especially considering the £3.68 price sticker that was stuck to the underside of the board! I'm not a cake baker myself so I knew it had no chance of ever being used again as a cake … [Read more...]
This week’s meal plan {28 September 2015}
It's been a while since I posted our weekly meal plan but now that the kids have gone back to school and life has (kind of) settled down again after the Summer Holiday chaos, I thought I'd try and share our meal plan on here every now and again.I'm not going to go through our meals day by day but I did want to tell you about a few of the bargains that we'll be eating:The gammon that we had tonight was from a small joint that I bought in Asda for £2.97. I cooked it slowly in the slow cooker while I was at work today and it was ready to eat at tea time along with some new potatoes … [Read more...]
Five Frugal things I’ve done this week to save money {25th September 2015}….
1. We've had a week without shopping this week as we've been using up the random bits of food and leftovers that we have in already. It's made for some very random meals but we've got a half empty freezer now so I've made space for some more reduced supermarket bargains.2. We've all been under the weather this week with snotty noses and sore throats so rather than buying half the chemist as I would have done in the past, I decided to go for the old fashioned hot water in a bowl approach to clear our blocked noses. I added a couple of drops of Olbas oil to some slightly cooled just … [Read more...]
Five Frugal things I’ve done this week to save money {18th September 2015}….
Five frugal things I've done this week: 1. Don't judge me for this one! At our local Asda I saw someone get in their car and drive away leaving their trolley in the next car parking space so I did the good citizen thing and took the trolley back to the trolley bay. Obviously my intention was to prevent the trolley from rolling away and hitting a car and had nothing to do with the fact that there was a pound coin in there waiting to be claimed. ;-)2. I bought a new table and chairs, well not exactly new but new to us. I haven't got it set up yet properly but here's the photo … [Read more...]
#ThriftyThursday – How to make a homemade photo booth…..
We had a last minute 13th Birthday party for Miss Frugal last weekend and in true Miss Frugal style, she decided on a beach party theme (despite the fact that rain was forecast) and invited 12 of her friends to come round promising an afternoon of beach party fun.I'll be writing a little bit more about the party at some point but while we were planning it, Miss Frugal jokingly suggested that we hire a photo booth as she and her friends are keen instagrammers and all love a good selfie!Obviously that's waaaaay outside my budget so I decided to go with a homemade version which is what … [Read more...]
