1) We bought Master Frugal a mountain bike for Christmas which he's over the moon with! This week, we sold his old bike on one of our local Facebook selling sites and because it was in great condition, the money we got for it will just about pay for a weekly food shop.2) The only company who supply the superfast broadband in our street at the moment is Virgin so we're pretty much tied to them as we do use the internet a lot in our house. We did get a better deal when we rang them the last time our contract ended but we called them yesterday on the off-chance that they could do anything … [Read more...]
What is open banking and how does it affect YOU?
Have you heard about open banking? I know that lots of people haven't so today I'm going to answer a couple of questions that I've been asked a few times over the last couple of weeks - What is open banking and how does it affect YOU?The 'What is open banking' questions have come about because I've shared a couple of new innovative finance and banking apps and websites recently in my Facebook group and a few people have contacted me to say that they're a little worried about these apps and how, in most cases, they need to link to your bank account in order to work. Before I go into … [Read more...]
Five Frugal Things I’ve done this week {19th January 2018}….
1) I feel like I’ve been really good this week with packed lunches because not only have I managed to take one to work every day which has saved me a fortune compared to if I’d been buying lunches in the work canteen but I’ve also managed to use leftovers for most day’s lunches.I made couscous using the gammon and veggie leftovers, pasta salad with the chicken and some spinach, leftover soup from our chicken soup/stew meal and bolognaise (which I did cheat and buy a jacket potato from work to put it on). I’m being super good at the moment and although I can’t see me being this good … [Read more...]
Five Frugal Things I’ve done this week {12 January 2018}….
1) I got my car insurance renewal through this week and was astounded at the jump in price - despite having 9 years no claims discount! I was straight on to a car insurance comparison site and managed to save a fortune! The moral of that story is that you should NEVER trust the auto-renew price.I did actually call up my insurers and the lady tried to match the price but just couldn't get close so I just cancelled and got a great deal elsewhere.... And I used Compare the Market so I get a Meerkat and get the buy one get one free cinema entry throughout the year too!2) I've been … [Read more...]
Five Frugal Things I’ve done this week {5 January 2018}….
1) We're planning an epic homemade pizza making night for tea tonight! We have a little bit of leftover chicken from last night and a bit of gammon leftover from the night before along with a tin of pineapple, some mushrooms that are just about to be past their best and a red onion. We'll be using our homemade pizza recipe and letting everyone add their own toppings so it's going to be a super cheap, use up everything in the fridge kind of tea!2) The men of the house went to a football match last weekend so Miss Frugal and I had a bit of a girly afternoon which involved Sunday Lunch … [Read more...]
Why you should NOT join a gym this year….
Hand up if you've promised yourself that you're going to make 2018 the year you lose weight/tone up/get fit?If your hand is up (even metaphorically) then you'd be in good company, especially as my hand is right up there with yours!Getting fit and losing weight is one thing but I know countless people who have signed up for a gym during the super-motivated first stages of a New Years Resolution and regretted it within weeks so I wanted to share this post with you today in the hope that I save someone from potentially making a very expensive mistake. You absolutely do NOT need a … [Read more...]
