In last week's five frugal things post I shared a photo of my posh toad in the hole and a couple of you have emailed to ask how I made it so I thought I'd share my recipe with you today. Before I do though, I should probably warn you that it's not all that posh! I'm not sure you could ever class a toad in the hole as posh to be honest but it's cheap, filling and easy to make - we call it posh because of the addition of the red onions which really do add another dimension to the traditional version of toad in the hole. How to make Posh Toad in the Hole 100g plain flour 300ml milk 3 … [Read more...]
DIY Sunglasses case….
I think I *may* have mentioned a few times that Miss Frugal and I both have a little bit of a sunglasses obsession. ;-) She has all sorts of pairs ranging from bargains to designer brands which she buys from places like SmartBuyGlasses UK online (she loves a good deal) and there's a couple of pairs in her collection that she's saved for ages to treat herself to so she always shops around. ;-) Have I ever shown you my teen's sunglasses collection. I think she gets her obsession from me :-) 😎 A post shared by UK Thrifty Family Blogger (@frugalfamily) on Feb 22, 2017 at … [Read more...]
Five Frugal Things I’ve done this week {7th July 2017}….
1) Last weekend I bought some reduced price sausages and made an amazing posh toad in the hole which I'll tell you all about next week. It was a much cheaper Sunday Dinner than the planned one which involved a gammon joint I was planning on popping in the slow cooker and it was amazing!2) I was on a roll with the posh toad in the hole so I even made chocolate cherry puddings for afters which were equally amazing and used just store cupboard ingredients and a tin of cherries I bought at least a year ago.3) Away from food now and on to some moneymaking - I've sorted out a few boxes … [Read more...]
Thirteen things that frugal people might re-use….
I hate waste and I like to think that I do my best to reduce the amount of waste in our house but after a visit to a friends house last week, I'm not sure that I do anywhere near as much as I could be doing!I stood in the kitchen with my friend while she made us our second cuppa of the afternoon and noticed that she was using the same teabags which is something that I never do. I didn't comment at the time but I did think to myself that the second cup would be nowhere near as nice as the first had been and silently resigned myself to a second rate cuppa. ;-)Surprisingly, that wasn't … [Read more...]
Homemade Fakeaway Chipotle….
When Miss Frugal and I visited New York in April we were on a bit of a budget when it came to food - mainly because the less we spent on food, the more we could spend on shopping! So although there were thousands of places we could have eaten, we decided before we left that we weren't going to eat in a lot of the more expensive places that people said we really 'had to try' and to eat cheaply where we could with just a few stand out treats. The first night we got there it was pouring down so we ate at Pret and had delicious tomato and feta soup with chicken and avocado sandwiches which … [Read more...]
Five Frugal Things I’ve done this week {30th June 2017}….
1) Despite the heat, I'm still loving soup for my lunch and I've had it three times this week. ;-) I bought a pack of pre-chopped soup mix from Asda in their reduced fruit and veg section so it worked out at around 15p a portion.Even at full price these pre-prepared soup packs work out as good value although it is a little waterier (is that a word) than my version of spicy butternut squash and sweet potato soup but actually I do quite like it that way.2) We went to the car boot sale last weekend and managed to get Tri-ominoes for the bargain price of 50p as our old and battered … [Read more...]
