I thought I'd have a go at making some Easter themed cupcakes this week so I headed over to Pinterest for some cupcakey inspiration. I was met with everything from handcrafted bunnies made from icing to perfectly crafted chicks piped onto cakes - all of which is way above by capability! I can however make an amazing chocolate cake so I decided to combine that with the one thing that I most think about when it comes to Easter - Cadbury's Creme Eggs! How to make Cadburys Creme Egg Cupcakes. The basic recipe for the chocolate cupcakes is just a normal chocolate sponge cake recipe so you … [Read more...]
Five Frugal Things I’ve done this week {31 March 2017}….
1) Honestly, excitement is at record levels in our house right now because this time next week Miss Frugal and I will be in New York! Top of my list of things to sort this week was our mobile phones as we're both on monthly tariffs that are great value for money here in the UK but not so much for abroad and we really want to use them when we're away to keep in touch with home. I had heard that Three were great for using your card abroad so I've had my phone unlocked and ordered a free sim from Three which I've topped up now and when I get to New York, I'll swap over the Sim and because Three … [Read more...]
Five Frugal Things I’ve done this week {24 March 2017}….
1) My phone contract finally ended last week so I called EE to cancel it as I was planning to move over to Giff Gaff who do unlimited data (6GB at 4G and after that it's slower speed) for £20 and 4GB for £15. We also wanted to cancel Mr Frugal's as he never got around to doing it last year - he says he forgot as I was unwell but I suspect its more to do with the fact that he wanted to stay with EE as the coverage with them is really good where we are. Anyway, we cancelled them both, got our PAC codes to move over to Giff Gaff and ordered our new Giff Gaff sim cards. Then we got a call from … [Read more...]
DIY Money Savings Jar….
Last weekend I used the last of a jar of artificial sweetener that we've had in the cupboard for what seems like forever. We only use it when my Dad comes around as it's the only thing he likes in his tea. The tub was a clear plastic jar with grooves around the edges and a bright yellow lid and I decided to try and upcycle it into a DIY money savings jar.I had some leftover gold glittery spray paint so I took the jar outside and gave it a quick spray with the spray paint. I wouldn't go out and buy some spray paint if you don't already have any in because you can jazz up your container … [Read more...]
Style on a budget – the one with the washi tape manicure….
Miss Frugal has always been a nail biter and no matter what we've tried, she just couldn't seem to kick the habit. But then we booked New York and she asked if she could have her nails done properly with gel polish if she could grow them to a reasonable length. I agreed half because I thought we'd tried everything else to try and help her stop biting them and half because I really didn't think she would manage seeing as she's tried so many times before.Turns out that having amazing nails in time for New York was a better motivator than anything else we've tried in the past as she now … [Read more...]
Five Frugal Things I’ve done this week {17 March 2017}….
1) There's not long until Miss Frugal and I head off to New York and the other day I was having a quick double check of our flight times and I noticed that there was an option to register an British Airways Executive Club card to collect some Avios points on our booking. I'd noticed this before but didn't do anything as we're not exactly frequent flyers but I just thought I'd have a look into it to see if the points were actually worth anything to us. Surprisingly, it totally was worth registering as the points we earned from our booking can be spent on-board with BA for food and drinks so … [Read more...]
