1) We're still saving to replace our living room, hall, stairs and landing carpet which was the first thing I wanted to tick off my house to do list this year but when I popped into TKMaxx last weekend with Miss Frugal I found some lovely Orla Kiely bathroom accessories which were so much cheaper than the ones I've been drooling over online. They had some great orla Kiely towels too which matched the accessories so I thought I'd do a mini makeover on our en suite bathroom which still looks almost the same as it did the day we moved in.I got a big towel for £12.99, a smaller one for … [Read more...]
Frugal Investments for a Frugal Family….
You don't actually need very much at all to start living a more frugal lifestyle but there are a few things that you can invest in that will certainly help so I thought I'd spend some time today sharing my favourite frugal investments with you....I know it might sound silly to be recommending that you actually spend money buying things to help you save money but bear with me, these things are things that I've bought that have saved me money or allowed me to be frugal without having to make a huge effort that I don't necessarily have time for as a working mum who doesn't have enough hours … [Read more...]
Are your routines and harmless habits costing you money….
Do you always have some month left over at the end of your money?(I've loved that phrase ever since I saw it on a fridge magnet in Blackpool a few years ago)If, like lots of us, your money seems to run out before the end of the month but you know that you should still have some money left according to your monthly budget, then you need to figure out where your money is actually going. For me, it used to be things like my weekly treat at Costa when I did my food shopping and the odd magazine here and there that I never thought much of. When I was trying to figure out why I didn't … [Read more...]
Five Frugal Things I’ve done this week {13 January 2017}….
1) On Monday I made a Budget leftovers version of a beef wellington which I shared with you here but it's basically a giant puff pastry sausage roll with the sausage being the leftovers of our Sunday Dinner! It was so easy to make and turned some random leftovers into a whole new meal which is the way to go with meal planning!2) I went to Ikea and only spend £18 and that was on things that I actually needed! I bought some tea-towels, some freezer bags and some new freezer bag clips, a new cheese grater and some storage boxes. The damage could have been much worse considering I went … [Read more...]
50 (mostly) productive things to do instead of spending money….
When my children tell me that they're bored I've always told them to go and find something to do and if they can't then they need to go and choose something from their bored jar to do (we have a tween bored jar now that they're older). With all of the books, games and technology we have in our house, there's absolutely no reason why either of them should be bored. I suppose the same goes for me, there's no reason why I should be bored either, is there? But sometimes, and please don't tell the kids this, sometimes I feel a little bit bored too except I don't have a bored jar to turn to and a … [Read more...]
A message to all you fledgling frugal-lers….
A lovely lady emailed me a little while ago to thank me for showing her that being frugal doesn't necessarily mean shivering in the cold with extra socks and jumpers instead of turning the heating on which was the impression she got from some sites online and someone else recently mentioned to me that they were so overwhelmed with all of the frugal tips and tricks that they'd found online that they had no idea where to start with it all. These two comments made me stop and think because I do know what they mean from my own personal experience because it's so easy to look at what others are … [Read more...]
